Science Ships
These types of ships trade offensive power for more scientific oriented mission profiles and technology, they are rarely seen in combat environments unless in the most dire needs or when taken by surprise.
Ship Type Sensors Warp Core Shields Phasers Torpedo Launchers
Observer Type 5-8 Class 3-7 Type 5-7 Type 4-8 Type 1-2
Surveyor Type 6-9 Class 4-8 Type 6-8 Type 5-9 Type 1-2
Researcher Type 7-10 Class 5-9 Type 7-9 Type 6-10 Type 1-2 OR Type 4
Exploration ships
These ships carry a good mix of technology and are often the staple workhorse ships in the fleet. Their profiles are meant to handle any general mission that could be encountered including light to medium combat to deep space exploration.

Explorer Type 6-9 Class 5-10 Type 8-11 Type 7-11 Type 2-3 OR Type 4-5
Combat Ships
These ships carry more offensive powered technology and are the ships you would see on escort and patrol functions in the fleet, as well as those carrying the fight in combat and similar related situations.

Outpost/Starbases
Outpost and Starbases are mammoth structures that hold some of the largest and most advanced technology allowed to a space borne structures. However, their technology is more limited then starships as a trade off.

Outpost Type 11-13 N/A Type 13-14 Type 4-12 Type 1-4 and 7
Starbase Type 11-13 N/A Type 13-15 Type 4-13 Type 1-4 and 7-8
General Purpose Starship
General purpose starships are the smallest space borne vessels to carry the title. They carry limited equipment to carry out their missions, but they allow larger starships to be freed up for more important tasks.

Runabout Type 4-5 Class 1-2 Type 2-4 Type 5-6 Type 2-3 (Micro)
Note: runabouts are limited to micro-torpedo launchers
Auxiliary Craft
Auxiliary craft are those small scale vessels that are often used as quick hit strikers as in the case of fighters/bombers or as short to long range transport craft. Their technology is limited and does not carry the range of their larger starship cousins.
