Past: Jack had met Cindy during an away mission on Coloney Nigel 7. She was a scientist and he a newly promoted COS. Jack was able to see her several times, as the mission revolved around the planet as a diplomatic investigation. The people of the Colony were near a civil war by the time the Austin went into orbit around the planet. Over time, Cindy stayed in contact with Jack, speaking to him daily. After two years of a long distance relationship, Cindy decided to quit her job and join Jack on the the Austin. They were married within a few months, and she settled in to the routine of being a civilian scientist aboard the ship. She became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Jack was a true family man. When he wasn't on duty, he was spending time with his wife and daughter, Melanie. After several years he was stationed on the Daedulus, his wife and child naturally following along. During shoreleave, he went with his family to Orion 3. During their stay there was a terrorist attack, an explosion that killed his family. Jack continues to carry the guilt for what had happened, even though there was no way to forsee such an event. At the time he turned to alochol to kill the pain. It was decided that he required time to grieve and to get his drinking problem in order. After a year he felt it was time to move on, and submitted his file to Starfleet after being cleared for duty. His next assignment was on the Mayweather. He had stabalized and was able to carry out his duties while seeing a Counselor regularly to ensure he was mentally healthy.

Jack's Personality: He is blunt, not afraid to speak his mind or get to the point of an issue. He doesn't back down from challenges and sometimes mistakes other people's words and actions as a challenge. At times he can be sarcastic, but really does try to keep that in line, as insulting his superior officer and lower ranked officers is not his goal. Jack is determined, with much perserverance. He doesn't give up easily on topics he feels strongly about. As a Lieutenant Commander he had disobeyed his Captain by going back into the fire fight zone to save the lives of three crewmen. Fortunately he was able to save two, and although he managed to save lives, the Captain was very angry that he had chosen to disobey orders, and would have it on his personal file. Because he was successful, the Captain didn't order a court martial. Jack explained that he simply couldn't leave people behind when he knows he can save them. Jack is very much a military man, as his background in security shows. He is militaristic, nonchalant and honestly cares about everyone on the ship, even those people he doesn't know well, or when he doesn't seem to act like it. He is a private man and doesn't readily volunteer information about himself. But he is truly dedicated to upholding Starfleet's directives.

Interesting Information:

He has a gun collection spanning from the the 1700s through to the early 2000's. They decorate his walls, none of them able to be used anymore. They are strictly there for decoration. Many of his holodeck programs are concerned with historical battles and wars. He also uses them for target practice, and to keep himself in shape.
