Merrimack and Sim Update on USS Merrimack

The Merrimack docked at Starbase 63, a base in space under construction with the administrative facilities on the moon below and the resource and mining areas on the main world above. Due to fluke accidents, supply ships had not arrived for some time and the mining bots had suffered breakdowns, slowing construction of the starbase. Into this the Merrimack came for needed repairs only to find that supplies, resources and the components were hard to find.

Act I

Seeking aid from the Starfleet personnel on the planet, a forested world with mostly rural inhabitants living in the trees, with some urbanized and living atop small plateaus dotted about the planet, the ship's crew looked to be making slow progress. Though primary materials remained elusive. Coming at a time of Festival some of the crew took a short break to see the sights, be it an old Festival celebrating ancient mythical victories over a draconic invasion, or other to see an archaeological Exhibition that showed the ancient history of the world's inhabitants. Still others, seeking repair materials, went to a local dealer named Weedmoss and struck a deal - the materials asked for in exchange for a fusion generator and a win in the race the following day.

Meanwhile on the Merrimack, as the engineers sought to fix up the racing vehicle supplied by Weedmoss, they detected an odd tachyon eddy that originated in a place between two of the system's worlds in the midst of a large cloud of dust. It began small with no threat to the vessel though it steadily increased in strength through the night and into the next day. As it was, such phenomenon were not dangerous, could be naturally occurring and was some distance away. It was, however, being monitored by the crew. In the Exhibition building an artifact, rather like a melted statue, had begun to glow the previous night and slowly but steadily increased.

Below on the planet all eyes were on the race and the events to happen. The race in question took in both a speed and obstacle course, going through the boughs of the great sequoia like trees then dipping down to race about the great trunks and through strategically placed hoops then lastly through the cores of fallen trees. If that was not enough the racers themselves proved to be potential obstacles through tricks attempting to remove other racers from the field.

Act II

The race began. The Federation racer lagged behind in the first leg, gaining way in the second as they dodged obstacles, potential booby traps and other racers. In the third and last leg they were in third place. An explosion rang out. Second place. The first place, the Tee Claw craft, damaged fell back and the Federation racer was now in first place. A moment later as they emerged from a large hollowed out log a missile was targeting their craft, narrowly missing it.

On the surface Tanner and a group of others pressed on to follow a lead of possible cheaters. When they arrived near the place they deduced the cheaters would be, two missiles were fired in their direction. Blowing one up, and dodging another, an explosion hurled them back to crash on the surface of the world far below. On the plateau city the spectators were suddenly overwhelmed by a huge explosion in their city.
