Maybe Ayla saw it, but he wouldn't give Amy or Gavin the satisfaction of seeing it. He still had to maintain /some/ sort of hard image. It helped him on many occassions.

: : : : : : Her injuries healed, Ayla grinned at the couple and then looked at Kyle. "I know it's a lot to take in, but you saw what happened at the centre with Taigen. I think I can help him Kyle. He needs someone and he can't stay at the house any longer. I don't want him to become like the people I treated at Tantalus. He deserves a better fate than that…"

And whatever it is, if the wounds aren't healed, the will fester and change him. I've seen it before and I know it can be helped. I don't know that I can 'save' him, but I want him to know what it's like to have people you can depend on. That alone can give people the courage to rise above their challenges."

: Ayla was quiet for a moment before she replied. "I won't lie and say I'm not nervous about it. A fourteen year old boy with significant behavioural and emotional problems isn't exactly the first thing that sprang to mind when I decided I wanted a child, but it /feels/ right Kyle. I know that this probably isn't something you were expecting either, but I hope you'll be okay with it. You're a part of my life now and it'll be a juggling act for all three of us. But I think Taigen would respond well to a strong male figure who is also understanding. You've been through difficult things in your life Kyle. That alone could be helpful for him."
