: : : : : Carmen led Joe and Adam down the hall to one of the smaller rooms and immediately beelined for the replicator to grab a cup of coffee. She stood there and sipped as if this were a normal meeting. "So, off the top of my head, things are a little tricky because I cant be armed, at least not traditionally. I have no doubt they'll check Narima and I for weapons. Bonus is that they won't be able to have anything the sensors could detect and I'm more than capable of handling myself in hand-to-hand if it came down to it."

: : : : : She moved over and sat down at the table, wrapping both hands around her mug. "My thought is that we will take over two empty quarters that are side-by-side. One is where the exchange will happen, the other is where you guys can be watching over things. If we decide to wire the room, which would be wise, I'll see what Admiral Geddes and Commander Delphia have that will be undetectable. The latest model must be out by now, so we'll see what our options are. Joe, I'll need you ready to act if things get dicey but only on my order. Adam, you and Merrick can run the tech side of things. I'll have Emelia insert a subcutaneous transponder in my wrist so that we don't have to worry about keeping in contact."

: : : : Joe was by now disgusted. "So you're saying these guys are too dumb to detect a wire or a subcutaneous transponder?" he said. "They're gonna look Carm..Commander. And if they find?" Joe shook his head saying,"No go in clean . Both of you . " It was obvious Joe was concerned about Carmen . "I really don't think they'll do anything violent in the middle of the station ."

: : : "I'm not saying they're dumb at all Joe. Just that there are ways around detection. I can go in clean, sure. But how do I know if I've got back up when I need it, if you can't hear me and I can't hear you? Don't underestimate them Joe. Our undercover operative isn't someone I've worked with. I need someone who knows me and can anticipate. I need you behind the scenes. If I go in clean, do you have another idea about keeping the lines of communication open?" she asked Milligan intently. Whether anyone else picked it up, she was serious and also worried herself.

: : Joe amazingly enough kept quiet . Yiu could tell it hurt by how red his face got. As if he were going to explode. He had several ideas but he knew Carmen well enough to know how hard headed she was. Her plan was viable . And if anything went wrong. well he'd be next door.

: Carmen gazed at Joe softly. By her expression it was clear that this wasn't easy for her. But she was compelled by duty and honour and all sorts of other things that proved inconvenient to one's desire to survive. She used to be able just brush the fears away and go in clear-headed, but now… oh how things had changed! She had changed. If it had been just the two of them in that room, she would have moved closer to Joe, made the feelings swirling around in her more clear, to let him know that she didn't want to go rushing in head first into a dangerous situation and that she was glad he was there to help keep her safe. But it wasn't just them, so she didn't. With her eyes fixed on him, she could read deeper than just using her empathic awareness and know there was more to Joe's statement. "I don't want to take unnecessary risk, ironic I know. And more than anything I don't want to put Narima and Kiani in any more danger than they are already in. Let's look at every option and then we can weigh the pros and cons." There, compromise. In the old days, she would have just followed orders, or planned a course of action and saw it through. But as she improvised her life right now, she found space to do there elsewhere.

Joe looked at her and said ,"Well good then. Here you are all sick and ailing. Can't make any exchange. And why would they want a dangerous person such as yourself anyway? Tell you what let's send the station drunk with a bad record in there to make the exchange! Who's gonna worry about me? "
