: : : : : : She knew a few people might wonder why she was doing this, so she carefully trained her mind to view this as just another relentless investigation into someone suspected of being a double agent. Her level of clearance usually got most inquisitive agents off her case either because they believed her when she said her mission was classified for her eyes only or because they feared too many questions might draw her attention to *them*.

: : : : Rhynia decided to start with Commander Pirin, provided the Commander was actually available to chat, if not, she could move down her list to those who owed her favors.

: : : As it happened, the S.I. officer was in fact around. She was wading through PADDs trying to find the lynch pin that would make everything make sense when Rhynia called. On the screen appeared an elegant Vulcan woman in a standard S.I. uniform and the rank of Lt. Commander. The call from the Polaris intrigued ehr since she doubted Kor would contact her personally given the circumstances. Pirin eyed the XO, and having familiarized herself with the senior staff of the Polaris, she knew who was calling. "Commander Asani. This is an unexpected call. How may I be of assistance?"

: : "I'm inquiring about the status of the investigation into Lieutenant Tohala Kor, I've had a request," she did not specify who gave the request. Best to keep that vague, play it more as she was assigned a classified mission. Even if Pirin could be trusted, it was best to keep this on the level of a business transaction between two intelligence agents. That way Pirin had the option of just playing it off as responding to a request from a superior officer.

: The Vulcan simply gave a tilted nod of her head. She knew full well that Asani had clearance for this, so she had no reason to deny the request. "The investigation has… stalled," she replied. "Internal Affairs has now inserted itself into the proceedings. I have been working to confirm whether the evidence against Lt. Kor is legitimate or not. It is likely that IA will want to interview Kor and those associated with her before it is decided one way or another if charges will be laid." It was all perfectly neutral, not showing whether the woman was for or against Kor in any way.

Rhynia inwardly cursed, she hated dealing with IA officers....they seemed to think their job over-rode what ever classified duty she had to her mission. She'd spent a few nights in a brig due to an overzealous IA officer thinking she was hiding something while she waited for her responsible flag officer to spring her.

"I see," Rhynia responded after a moment, "Would it be possible for you to send me the details that you do have on the investigation? Any standard encryption code works." She had the clearance, the less information she imparted on Pirin, the better. It was usually how her missions ran, only divulging the absolute minimum of details on anyone she spoke to. It was particularly useful in situations where IA was involved, she wanted them as much in the dark about her actions and motives as she could keep them. If they didn't have enough information about what she was doing, they couldn't arrest her...at least not and have it stick.

There was always the possibility too that the IA officers investigating were ones she was familiar with. There were some of them, that while they dared not admit it, were scared of trying to go toe to toe with her. Probably because when she was in her Intelligence Officer mode, she played to win and often did.

Probably why the higher ups didn't let her resign entirely from intelligence when she asked to switch to the command track.
