: : : : : : "You have no questions at all about me?" Kendra asked. She lit up in a smile. "How else are you going to get swift promotions if you don't know what kind of cake I would like for my birthday?"

: : : : : With a perfectly straight face Beckett said ,"I imagine that launching interviews of people involved in recent birthday celebrations , a check to see if your mother had sent you any such gift, or a check into the most common purchases of your family around your birth date for the first sixteen years of your life could probably yield a likely result."

: : : : Kendra smiled. "I highly doubt it Ensign. My family didn't really have extra money to purchase things. A lot of my gifts were homemade. And no recent celebrations either, in fact, the last 4 years I haven't had anyone to celebrate with. Work comes first and my family is too far away to see."

: : : "Well then and there you have the answer ." Beckett replied with a small barely suppressed smile. "You wouldn't have a specific preference so the logical choice for a selection would be something safe and neutral .Chocolate cake with white icing. Having not had any sort of cerebration for so long it would quite probably assure the desired results."

: : "I am allergic to chocolate, Ensign." Kendra answered sternly. "Are you assuming I would like chocolate cake because i am a woman, and every woman eats a lot of chocolate in your eyes?"

: "No ma'am , Beckett said without missing a beat . "As for your allergy I think you may be trying to lead me astray in our mock investigation. Of course I did run afoul by not checking your medical records. A quick check there would've shown me the allergy and thrown out that as an option immediately . A very bad flaw in my investigatory technique .I didn't have quite all my bases covered did I ma'am ?"

"I am sorry Ensign, you are right, what I said wasn't real." Kendra replied. "I am not allergic to chocolate, but my favorite cake is red velvet. As for not having all your bases covered, yes, we do conduct investigations, but also remember, this does not mean you are an Intelligence Officer who is trained extensively in the department of investigations. As Security Officers we are expected to know all the aspects in this field, but we are never usually trained to be masters of them all. In time we pick up tricks and skills which enhance our careers, but you must remember to be patient."
