: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept nodded and sat back down at his desk, tapping on the console and then studying the panel's display momentarily.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "Were these prosthesis designed by star fleet personnel, or was it done through an independent business or contractor?"
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept tapped on the console again, looking between the panel's display and Julien.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "Neither. It was done by the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Developement Center. They are not a part of Starfleet, but most of their research and development is for Starfleet." Julien said.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "I'm familiar with their organization and many of their more significant works, they were used during some R&D of my systems according to what pieces of the engineering logs I have come upon. Your diagnostic systems, however, do not seem to conform to federation standards although they are manageable enough to work with."
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : "Yes that's true. They had to change quite a few things in order to make them work together with my body, and vice versa. Take the fluids for example. Neither blood nor the liquid in the android parts can ever touch the other part for a longer period. I could bleed out internally without noticing outwardly or the mechanic fluids could penetrate my flesh and cause harm there, because they would be toxic. So, the only time when I really need to be worried, is if a shot hits me in a way that severs a place between my human and my android parts... or my vital human parts of course."
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept seemed to have found what he was looking for, his motions on the console more rapid as his eyes shifted, reading something on the screen.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "I'll begin the diagnostic, if you are ready, each subsystem will shut down during the process."
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : "Yes, go ahead. I won't black out." he sat down and leaned back, so that when his right leg stopped working he wouldn't fall over.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept tapped a few buttons on the console, initiating the diagnostic sequence already programmed into the Commander's equipment. The console responded accepted the command and Julien's arm responded by going limp, but despite becoming motionless, the actuators began to flex at various intervals and speeds, starting in his fingers.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : It always creeped him a bit to see his fingers moving but didn't feel his arm. In order to steer his attention elsewhere he studied Sept.
: : : : : : : : : : : : "I used to be on a first name basis with the command crew when we were on our own. Would that be ok for you?" he asked him.
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : "Any reasonable designation you would like to use is acceptable to me, Commander; given name, rank, or otherwise." he said, nodding.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : "Ok Sept, you can call me Julien then." he said with a smile while his right leg was moving on itself.
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : "I will." he said, before adding without pause, "Sir."
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Sept's face remained empty, it appeared as if the android still prioritized rank above naming directives.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Julien smiled. "No Sept, just Julien." he said softly.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : - Julien King
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Of course, Julien." he said, as he rose from his chair and began moving about the room.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "I'll begin modifying a subspace transmitter to serve as the homing beacon you requested. Fortunately, the abundance of spare parts and tools left over from the storage room have yet to be removed, I have everything I need, providing all components are in operational condition."
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Sept moved from box to box, grabbing various electrical components and a handful of tools, including a handheld paDD that appeared different from its normal kind. It was thicker, slightly wider and had an access port on its side that traditional paDDs lacked. He never returned to the same box twice, apparently being certain to grab all the components he would need from each area before moving on. Approximately a minute after he had begun to gather things, he returned to his seat and placed the last of the items on the desk.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Based on my estimates, Sir, your diagnostics will still finish before I complete the modifications to conform to your request; however, it seems prudent to begin the associated work now, rather than waiting."
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Sept Celebi
: : : : : :
: : : : : : OOC: Just a personal note here. I love the way you write Sept. He is so terribly efficient and without emotion. Its just great!!
: : : : : :
: : : : : : D...
: : : : : OOC: Agreed.
: : : : : IC:
: : : : :
: : : : : Julien nodded. "Ok, go ahead."
: : : : :
: : : : : - Julien King
: : : :
: : : : Sept pried open the case of the transciever on his desk and picked up two probes from the array of tools he had collected. He moved from one tool to another, making adjustments to the intricate circuit board on the device that lie in front of him. As he worked, the tools began to shift from a single stack, to two; the further was off on Sept's left, just within arm's reach. After a tool was placed there, Sept did not touch it again, instead moving on to other tools as the tasks associated with reprogramming the device progressed.
: : : :
: : : : Sept Celebi
: : :
: : : Julien watched intently, and was glad that this tricky work was done by the precision of an android arm!
: : :
: : : - Julien King
: :
: : Sept continued to work for half an hour, Julien's diagnostic completing somewhere around minute 18. As his console chimed its completion, he reached over and quickly silenced the noise, returning immediately to the delicate work in front of him. As he finished with the probes and set them back into the group of tools he had further use for, he reached over and connected the unusual paDD to the transceiver via two clips he had attached to part of the tiny circuit board. It seemed unusual, such extensive work would normally be unnecessary; all federation transceivers were designed for programming via a secure, wireless interface. As the paDD came to life and Sept changed his angle of view upwards at the small screen in front of him, he noticed the commander's intent inspection of the work.
: :
: : "I've modified the transceiver to operate on a electromagnetic relay assembly that's simple enough in premise. Each of three relays will trigger on a separate subspace frequency. All three relays must be active for the transceiver's internal circuitry to complete. For practicality, the signal can be deactivated and the relays reset by depressing this button." he said, flipping the transmitter over and showing a small black button on the rear of the device.
: :
: : Sept looked momentarily at the Commander before tapping seemingly wildly on the paDD.
: :
: : "Once I've programmed the frequencies into the relays, I'll run some brief tests before releasing the device into your custody."
: :
: : Sept Celebi
:
: Julien looked at it intntly. "Ok. And how will I be able to activate it once it's inside of me without using my hands?" he asked.
:
: - Julien King
"There is an override switch which will trip the relays manually on the side, its small and somewhat concealed." He said, reaching out and turning the device to show the Commander.
