: : : : : : : : : : : Black slowly brought himself forwards to the location of the creatures. He signalled for the rest of the away team to move up on his six with a quick motion of a hand signal that probably only Am'tra would have understood. He didn't have a tricorder out and his hands where away from his phaser but he moved up anyways.

: : : : : : : : : : As the team neared the creatures the purring and chirping stopped and low growls began to emanate from that general area. The scans would show that they were tribbles but there was something very, very wrong with them. One of the larger tribbles charged at Ketchum and attacked his calf, snarling as it did so.

: : : : : : : : : : The others also began to advance toward the team. It would seem that the trio had stumbled into their territory or at least that's what these creatures thought. Instinct, pure instinct.

: : : : : : : : : "What the...!" Ketchum yelled, as the palm-sized furball tried to make a meal out of his leg. Any question he'd had about where the teeth were on tribbles, was soon answered in the most unwelcome way possible. He flailed at the one on his leg, while shooting phaser stuns at whichever remaining ones he could focus on.

: : : : : : Black dropped his tricorder and took a moment to look at the situation before reacting. Ketchum seemed to be trying to deal with the one that was on his leg, so he moved with concern towards the other approaching tribbles. He ran at one that was off to the side and in a style that would have done shame to an American Football player, he aimed a running kick that would have sent the tribble flying. He would not worry about the Captain for the moment until they had resolved what was going on but Black sent back a reply.

: : : : : The kick only served to raise the aggression level of the other tribbles in the triad. They now saw Dr. Black as a bigger threat and one turned and attempted to attack his leg as well. Black would notice that even the new tribbles that had just been born were now multiplying even though they were just minutes old. While they multiplied quickly, it was not usually this fast.

: : : : : As the team fended off the attacking tribbles, they would hear the purring increasing in numbers as more of the furry little creatures appeared. Each one already ready to have babies.

: : : Black's Marine training kicked in as he drew out his weapon "Okay.... weapons free folks... " he said as he extended the phaser as if it was his own paw. He fired a few hopefully-accurate shots at the advancing crazy tribbles. With his other hand he hit his comm badge

: : : =^=Black to Saracen.. emergency site to site transport... =^= he paused as he considered something a moment =^=Black to Saracen.. strike my last.. =^= he called and then brought his voice to Marine-level.

: : : "RALLY POINT!" he called to the away team, ordering them to make a tactical withdrawl to a prearranged location they had designated as they patrolled in.

: : As the team retreated the tribbles calmed down and returned to eating and multiplying. Now that the team was out of 'their territory' they were no longer interested. Ketchum's calf was bleeding where the tribble had been gnawing, there were chunks of flesh now missing and Ketchum would notice that his calf felt as if it was on fire.

: : An Zhou hurried over "What are these things? Where did they come from?" He walked over to one of dead creatures and picked it up and examined it and walked back over to the group of Star Fleet officers.

: Ketchum tore a piece off of his tunic and wrapped it around his badly bleeding calf.

: "At some point, they were tribbles, but I've never heard of them attacking people like that. They're not even supposed to be carnivorous!"

Noticing the sharp burning in his wound, Ketchum scanned it with his tricorder, fearing venom, or some highly dangerous bacteria...
