: : : : : : : : : : : : It was not that long a walk to the rising pyramid temple area with the large statue at its top. The walk across the empty area was peaceful and quiet, a few birds and other wildlife from earth actually seen about, which was certainly odd given how far they were from Earth. It was almost like the whole city had somehow been transported across space to this locale.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Dating on the structures showed them to be roughly 1360 years old give or take a few years construction materials also dated from the same period of time that were in the area, furthermore materials were also of Earth origin not the more local planet's materials that they could detect. Again quite odd indeed.....

: : : : : : : : : : : : As they neared the top of the temple area with the statue nearby, they had a lovely scenic view of the massive city about them, again there was still no sign of life, even though their was plenty of game to hunt, plants to eat, and what not all about, one piece of evidence to this though was at the altar area.

: : : : : : : : : : : : On the altar by the statue with the warp core readings was an aged man, roughly 1360 some years long or longer dead. It was hard to tell. For some reason his remains were well preserved though, and he was clearly a mayan priest of some sort possibly the tribal leader even.

: : : : : : : Their progress however in getting to said altar/statue and their goal of the warp core energy readings was blocked it seemed by an energy field of some kind, they would have to figure out someway past it to proceed.

: : : : : "Captain, I've been keeping an eye on the readings I've been getting on the ruins around here, and they seem to have been been constructed from earth materials dating to the 9th century. Furthermore, I've been digging farther into the database on what we have of mayan information, and I discovered something interesting. It seems that the statue is a representation of one of the Xibalba deities. Xibalba happens to be the mayan underworld, and it's puzzling that this planet has the same architecture as those on Earth. It could very well be that we're in the same area of the sky that they believed was the physical representation for the road to the underworld, but I need to cross reference the great rift with respect to our current location." Matthew finally stated to the group, pausing so that Captain Pape could reply.

=/\=Thank you Lt. Cross reference the geology of this area with that of the cave systems of Coban, Belize and Bolivia. That's where the Mayans believed the entrance to Xibalba was. It may be that there is some truth to it. We may find that the Mayan gods were in fact aliens who used this energy field to travel through the caves. I also want medical to do an autopsy on the High Priest when we get to the body.=/\=

The CO clearly knew a lot about Mayan mythology and was intrigued from both a professional and personal point of view.
