: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : And within a few seconds she could feel the controls responding. "Very good!" She said, excited.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : A few moments after that, she saw the island in the distance. She actually has no idea what it looks like since that's in the GM's head, but I really want to land this shuttle so we're going for it. :P
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : It was difficult, with the computer being spotty, but she was able to direct the shuttle to a landing path. Since they had full power control, she was able to guide it and land it properly... she picked a clearing not far from the beach. She had no idea where the best place to start building this thing would be, but this would do it for now. It was a relatively soft landing... could have been much harder if things hadn't gone well!
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Once the shuttle touched down she gave a sigh of relief. "Well, that was interesting." She turned to look at the small away team. "You must be from science then. Lt. Lewis, engineering." She introduced herself.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "We've got quite a bit of work ahead of us. Lt. Nalar, why don't you and Ensign Sax take a quick tour of our area of the island, make sure there are no issues with us being where we are. Ensign Rivers and I will start surveying the immediate surroundings for our engineering needs." She waited a moment to see if anyone had any questions, then thought of something.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "Sax, send a report ASAP to the Olympic with how you fixed the problem. They'll need that before they can send more away teams down."
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lewis, CE
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sax got to work with the report. He needed all the information available before he reported to the ship. He knew time was short and after runing a diagnostic on the ships systems he read the summaries that were up in seconds. He moved over to the communication station on the shuttle and opened a message to the ship. "Ensign Sax to Olympic,"
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sax, Science.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : NE Connely answered, =/\= Communications were spotty but we are receiving you now. What is your status?=/\=
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Bridge crew
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "We barely made it to the surface, we came across only what I can describe as some kind of radiation electromagnetic cloud that disrupted shuttle systems as soon as we came out of the atmosphere. Navigational computers and engines where the first to go. There was no permanent damage to the shuttles. I was able to lock on to the cloud that caused the malfunction. The shuttles will have to avoid the cloud. But in the event a shuttle does enter the cloud, I recommend they restart their engines as soon as possible. I'm sending my official report over the com now with the coordinates to the landing zone. The cloud is dense enough to not be read by passive scans. Please confirm."
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sax, Science.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : =/\=Understood, Shuttle 1. Receiving telemetry now. Keep us informed.=/\= NE Nonnely turned to the captain to see 9if she wanted anything more and saw her shake her head slightly indicating she had nothing. =/\= Olympic out.=/\= NE Connely closed the link.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : TJ exited the shuttle. He wasn't certain where they'd begin. "What do ya think there boss?"
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : TJ-eng
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Well done, folks. Sorry I came down with the flu so have been afk. Only one thing to change...its not just one cloud. This is an almost entirely water planet so the cloud system is global. Think of it more as a layer of atmosphere that cannot be gotten around:) The sun doesn't shine much here<G>.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : IC:
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : As the crew members began to exit the shuttle they noticed a few facts very shortly. One, it was raining. And by the cloud cover it didn't look like it would stop anytime soon. So they would have the weather to contend with. The second thing they noticed was the island itself. It was not very large at all, being only perhaps a half mile wide by a mile and a half long. And it had been the largest island conformation that could be found.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Also it was not made up of what the away team might have expected an island to be made up of. There was no grass or greenery anywhere to be seen, which, if the cloud cover was any indication, wasn't surprising with little sunlight. The ground appeared to be made out a calcified substance of some sort.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : There was also no beaches, as in sand beaches. The only indication of what might be a beach was that the calcified ground matter sloped suddenly down toward the water near the edges. They would have to ferry the equipment nearer the water as it was all water structure based.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Nosferatu
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Toren stepped off the shuttle and crouched down, running his hand over the surface, looking around "You know, this stuff almost reminds me of dead coral back on Earth" He said, almost to himself.
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Lt.jg Nalar, COS
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Lewis is in command of the landing party until the XO arrives. I will play an NE Medical for now until Tyra is back from LOA. Besides she is on Shuttle 2.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : IC: NE Dr. Nightingale, had her medical tricorder out and was scanning each person as well as the atmospheric readings. She was wondering if there were any substances that were harmful to the crew members and was checking her tricorder carefully. She liked the smell of the moist planet. She was anxious to get some samples of the ocean water to analyze.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Booker and misc crew. =D (It is a good thing I am crazy enough to play so many characters! m@,@m )
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : (I have corrected the planet's name. Guess I just had a brain fart!) Terry
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Jehry activated his triorder and analyzed the surface of this 'island'. The surface of the island was intresting. He used a tube to collect samples for further analysis.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : Jehry's tricorder scans showed an interesting fact. Instead of just being one entire mass the coral island was actually many masses amalgamated together. As if they had floated separately at one point and then upon 'meeting' sealed together into one mass.
: : : :
: : : : It was also actually floating on the water and not 'moored' to the ocean floor. So they were actually on a moving island not a stationary one. Toward the edges of the mass, or shoreward the color shifted to one of yellow white.
: : : :
: : : : The composition of the coral showed it was consisted mostly of keratin and silicate spicules interwoven with the more natural calcium carbonate that coral was made up of.
: : : :
: : : : It was very odd to have a heavier elements intermixed with the coral but perhaps it was an explanation of the planets high magnetic interference rate if such heavy elements were present in the atmosphere or oceans as well.
: : : :
: : : : : : : : : He wanted to scan the water next. "Sir, I need to get a anaysis of the water before we start entering."
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Sax, science.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Absolutely. Go forth and do whatever sciencey stuff you need!" She expected that each of them had a job to do and would go do it now that they were safely on the planet. The next team would be coming shortly anyway.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Lewis looked around. "Well this certainly isn't the dream vacation I thought it would be." She said dryly.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "Let's get started on the dry dock Rivers. Shouldn't take too long... I was expecting sand to get in the way. This slopes pretty easily into the water."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Lewis, CE
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "Righty roo."TJ said. He looked over the area. It would be good to make the dock. "We'll need our supplies first."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : TJ-eng
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Have whatever you need beamed down if it isn't in the shuttle. We took the first shuttle so it should have most of what we need to get started..." She walked along the edge of the water with a tricorder, analyzing the shore for depth.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : OOC: Hi Krys... wondering if it just drops off or slopes down and how quickly. Or you can just say "it looks like a great place to build a dry dock!" and we'll go with that. <G> - Jen
: : : : : :
: : : :
: : : : OOC: Its a gradual incline from where the away team set down to the water's edge, then there is a shelf that extends out perhaps 50 feet of the same material as the island under the water before it drops off sharply.
: : : :
: : : : : : Toren, lacking the science expertise or equipment to take part in the initial construction, walked over the waters edge, looking down, he saw the white under the water fade as it went further out, smiling, enjoying the soft sounds of water lapping against the shore, it reminded him of home, he had grown up near the sea and there wasn't nearly enough ocean in space, he closed his eyes and breathed in deep, memories of home flooding back.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Lt.jg Nalar, COS
: : : : :
: : : : : Jehry moved to the shore line. He got down on his knees to examine the water with his tricorder. He used a container to take samples examine for any toxins. "Ma'am, as far as I can tell, the waters save for the crew. It resembles a lot like Earths Pacific ocean."
: : : : :
: : : : : Sax Science.
: : : : :
: : : : : OOC: I hope this okay. :)
: : : :
: : : : Jehry's scan of his water sample did indeed show that the water was very similar in composition to Earth's oceans except for the heavier elements present in the water as well.
: : : :
: : : : GM Nosferatu
: : :
: : : "That's good. By safe I assume you mean safe to swim in. If it's like Earth ocean, it's not safe to drink." She said it like a statement but she was looking for confirmation as well.
: : :
: : : "Any security threats?" She added. Beats on the island, beasts in the shallow water....
: : :
: : : "This area will do fine for our dock." She stated, having chosen a site. She went back to the shuttle and began getting all the parts assembled to build it.
: : :
: : : Lewis, CE
: :
: : TJ joined the chief. He grabbed a couple of parts and began to assemble the beginnings of the dry dock. It would be important that they got that done before getting the ship built.
: :
: : TJ-eng
:
: Between them the Chief and the engineer managed to get the supports down to the waters edge first. Using sonic drillers they began to drill into the coral to anchor the supports that would hold the decking of the dock. This was a work of several hours.
:
: Meanwhile Jehry Sax moved farther away from them as he gathered his scientific samples. His newer data began to trickle down though as he began to obtain the same results and readings. If he wanted more he was going to have go deeper.
:
: GM Nosferatu

Toren looked from one end of the island to the other and then to the Chief "The only beasts on this island are of the two legged variety, as for under sea creatures...well that I don't know" he sat down by the waters edge and ran his hand through the water, smiling, he rubbed his fingertips together, feeling the water, he sniffed his fingers, the scent of salt water bringing back more memories of his childhood.

He looked out across the surface of the water "Do you have any underwater probes in that napsack of yours? We'd do well to take some shallow readings, just in case there is anything down there that wants to eat us"
