: : : : : "Yes," Marina agreed. "Now let's try some of that white merlot and talk about something else. Tell me more about your family."

: : : : Simon walked over to the cabinet pulled out a bottle and two glasses. He pulled the cork out then poured two glasses. He walked back over and handed one to her taking a sip of the remainng glass in his hand. "Well not much of a story compared to yours.
: : : :
: : : Marina took one tiny sip of the wine, rolled it around her mouth and then swallowed. Then she did it again, allowing the tastes to permeate her palate so she could pick out the complex layers of the wine. The typical hints of raspberries blended with cherries. It was ever so slightly sweet and felt light in her mouth. While it probably would have been even better slightly chilled, even at room temperature, it was a lovely wine.

: : : : My father taught criminology, my mother was an artist. I guess I inherited a little of each of them. I love sketching and painting even writing, but I also enjoy gathering evidence and actually solving a case.
: : : :
: : : : I've got four brothes and two sister and we are still pretty close. I don't think any of them really understands my love of space or my wanderlust, but they are supportive and caring. We were all told to explor whatever dream we felt was ours, no matter what we think.

: : : "What's it like to be close to your siblings? I've never had a sibling so I don't know what it is like to have such a large family," Marina admitted.

: : Simon set the glass down and shrugged his shoulders. "Well it can be hectic and chaotic for sure. My parents insisted on three things. First that we worked hard and treated other people fairly. Second, like I already said, that we live out whatever dream was our dream regardless of whether others approved or not and third that we learn at least one foreign language.
: :
: : Anyway we were all very different. I am the expolorer in the family, but there is an Engineer, a writer, a couple of muscians, a fashion designer and our personalites were all pretty different too, but we somehow manage to get along together.
: :
: : Growing up we beat each other up sometimes but if any outsider attacked one of us, he attacked us all. It was a real trip."

:
: Marina listened attentively, realizing how vastly different their upbringings were. She also realized just how much she wished someone had been around for her, to stand up for her when it had mattered most. The only one who had was long dead. Although, she could admit that her cousins had surprised her with their support. "It sounds wonderful to have people you can depend on," she said softly, drinking her wine probably a little faster than was 'proper', but she didn't care at the moment. Her mind was reeling still from the conversation with her father.

Simon watched her down the wine, the poured her another glass. Seizing on her words he replied, "I can't change what happened to you in the past, but if you want somebody to stand up for you, to have your back, then I'm your guy. That's what firends are for."
Simon
