: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tresha thought for a moment, "I was thinking a synthetic polymer that would connect well enough to both machine and flesh actually. I've been toying with a compound when I was in the academy, I minored in cybertechnology, the borg are SO intreaguing..." she broke off with a blush. "It will take some time to synthesize enough and to test it but I already have some so...maybe we can do a test patch on myself to see if it will stand up to the strain and connect well enough. It would make the leg a bit difficult to remove....so the leg would have to work extremely well in order for this to work."

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : "I like the sound of that" S'Raal said his finger on his pursed lips as he pondered the issue. "Especially the idea of test driving the technology first. I'm wondering if we need a third on this, with the Captain's permission of course. I was thinking that Casira Meu might have some valuable expertise in this area that could help us bridge the gap between biological and mechanical". S'Raal paused and looked up "What do you think?

: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : "I wouldn't be against it but I'm not sure how to approach her, she seems the private type and usually my outgoingness makes those types uncomfortable...."

: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : S'Raal nodded at the summation "If you like I'll work with both of you separately. I've been meaning to make first contact for a while now and this assignment will be a good reason for me to further my knowledge of this particular member of the crew. I'll fill you in on whatever advice or help she offers".
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : S'Raal sat up a bit straighter "So how long do you think you need to create enough of this synthetic polymer? I'm going to need at least a few weeks to do preliminary work on the nanotechnology necessary to speed up the conduction rates across the flesh-machine bridge. If we leave our individual efforts open for perusal on the mainframe we can keep track of each others progress and meet up periodically for tests. What do you think?"

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign S'Raal - Doctor
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : "I think since I have already the breakdown of the polymer it will only take...about 5 days to synthesize enough for the leg covering. We will want it to cover the entire limb as it has a skin like cohesion and feel to it." She punched a few buttons on her PaDD, "maybe a week at most. But I still have final tweaks to do on the mechanical pieces of the leg as well and then need to fashion them to work in sync with the nanites on the same frequency. That I can't do until you've completed the nannites." Just then lunch arrived, Tresha grinned at the doctor, "we should have lunch more often!" she exclaims and digs into her lunch.

: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : S'Raal took a dainty bite and chewed thoughtfully. "Okay, so it seems that we try preliminary testing in a week on the polymer and then I come in a week after that with my half of the bargain."
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : S'Raal took a bigger bite and relaxed for a minute "I feel like I've been going like a train since I arrived." He took a deep breath and continued. "So Chief, what made you think of the polymer in the first place? It's quite a revoluntionary concept".

: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : She smiled, a nostalgic look on her face, "It made me think back to my robotic days, I met Data once back then...he told me about his borg experience. I was so intreagued by them, and their melding of technology to the biological. So I dabbled...I don't see why the same can't be done here."

: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : "Right, yes I hadn't thought about that particular incident" S'Raal nodded in contemplation. "I'll have to look up the findings from that, it could well contain some interesting pointers for what we are doing. I guess essentially we're trying to create a translation programme from mechanical input to biological sensation and then back again. When I think of the trillions of calculations that go into just moving a muscle it fills me with wonder, not to mention the brain itself".
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : He paused and took a bite of his lunch "I guess doctors feel the same way about biological systems that engineers feel about engines and starships".

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Tresha nodded, "Quite right, Doctor, quite right" she took another bite of her meal, "If we pull this off we may make Starfleet history..." she mused, "But...first we have to pull it off." She smiled.

: : : : : : : S'Raal nodded vigorously "I have no objection to being famous" he said grinning "Getting noticed is the first step towards gathering sufficient resources to do something really significant for the universe but then, how does the saying go... I shouldn't count my poultry before it emerges from the shell".
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : S'Raal stretched his spine a little in the chair. "Now the business is sorted, tell me something about yourself. I'm impossibly nosy about the people around me and my own life is an open book. Some find that a little intimidating, but I'm guessing you won't be one of them" S'Raal chuckled "How about we start with an easy one... the ships about to blow and you can only save one thing from your quarters other than yourself... what do you grab?"

: : : : : :
: : : : : : Tresha thought for a moment, "My father's first tool kit, he gave it to me when I went off to Starfleet Academy. We would toil for hours on an old fuel engine he'd aquire from a scrap merchant or some other mechanical mystery he'd pick up somewhere....he was always taking things apart and making something new. We'd spend hours in his workshop, late into the night..." She got lost in nostalgia for a moment as memories flitted through her mind. She smiled then, a warm smile, not her usual perky one but a private smile that bespoke her warmth of family. "What would you grab?" she asked, coming back to the moment.

: : : : :
: : : : : S'Raal hesitated before answering, then smiled as he spoke "A picture of my mate T'Pon. She would say that it would not be logical to risk my life for a replaceable artifact but I think secretly she'd be pleased at my sentimentality" His eyes seemed far away for a moment but then he returned to the conversation. "So what was the first thing that you "engineered" with your father?".
: : : : :
: : : : : Ensign S'Raal - Doctor
: : : :
: : : : "Oh...that's so sweet, where is your mate now?" she asked, truly interested.
: : :
: : : "She's at Starfleet Medical at the moment" S'Raal said with a sparkle in his eye " She's involved in research and secretly, she's waiting for a chance to see if we can get posted to the same ship".
: : :
: : : "Oh well...we built a low tech hover dolly for moving the heavy equipment first!" she laughed thinking about the old clunker they had to repair more ofthen than they used it. However...it still worked when she left for Star-fleet, one of the only things that still did. She made a mental note to call home soon, her mother must miss them both badly.

: : :
: : : S'Raal smiled "That's a pretty ambitious project to start on, I've heard that antigrav is notorious for letting you down at the most inappropriate moment." He paused and then continued "Okay next question... have you ever named a vehicle, piece of equipment or the like?"
: : :
: : : Ensign S'Raal - Doctor
: :
: : Tresha laughs, "the dolly's name was molly and yes....she was very tempermental! What about you? Any names for your scalpuls or instruments?" she smiles broadly, completely relaxed.
: :
: : CE
:
: S'raal grinned "Molly the dolly, yes , now there's poetry and no mistake." He reflected for a minute "I haven't named anything medical myself but I've observed many of my compatriots doing the same. One guy I trained with called his old scalpel Excalibur after getting it stuck in a bone once. I had to do some research to understand the reference but it made sense once I did. I haven't actually had any medical equipment long enough to myself yet to feel I've bonded with it but I'm sure the day will come. Do you have any suggestions for me?".

: Ensign S'Raal - Doctor

Tresha grinned, "just whatever comes to mind, whatever feels right I always say." she took another sip of her drink. "I can't imagine life without my tools to be honest."
