: : : : "What need do I have for currency?" the Captain asked, equally confused. She shook it off and eyed the ensign. "I would ask the questions I've asked you to anyone presenting me with a proposal for an experiment. It is not personal in the least. If you are taking it as such, then perhaps you need to step back from your research a little and gain some perspective."

: : Farek showed a mock heart attack with his hand clutched over his breast. "Captain, such blasphemy against the Rules of Acquisition." His joke been made, he got really serious. "I also have a far more personal reason for this experimentation. Something that causes me to have more at stake here than all the latinum I've spent on getting my test subjects and medications.

: "I can understand the personal slant here Farek," Koraia said, using his name with a softer tone. "But that is exactly why you need to be even more detached from your work, or bring in someone else. As soon as it becomes personal, you lose objectivity and the ability to produce good science. I'm not opposed to you continuing your research, but I do expect that you will be able to answer basic questions about it. nothing I have asked you is unreasonable or should be difficult to respond to." She well understood his position. Hers was no different, except that she was letting others do the research. Not only was it not her expertise, but she needed to be stepped back from it so she could make good decisions.

Farek got serious real quick. "Captain, I have a problem I loathe discussing. I share this reluctantly. My personal stake isn't money, time invested or even the damned tribbles. It is the fact the Klingons have used my own science against me. They have caused me to have a mutation that makes me susceptible to diseases from any race. I take a weekly injection to counter it, but the tribbles DNA they used in me causes my system to adapt to the injection faster than the diseases. After having one disease once or twice I adapt well enough to not be phased, but as you may already know, there are very deadly diseases in every race. Some I would rather not experience once, much less twice or more." His tone never wavered, nor did his expression or gaze.
