: : : : : : : : : : : : Next on her list was to meet Lt. Commander Zoran, ships counselor. Emalene had been unpacking in her newly appointed rooms. They were comfortable, though not as decadent as her grandparents home on Betazed. She liked the simplicity of it though, and hoped in the near future to add her own touches. A piece of art here, a vase with flowers there, and beautiful candle holders with scented candles would cheer up the rather cookie cutter suites created by Star Fleet for its vessels. They had considered their occupants by providing a neutral and unassuming enough space that dressing them up to each persons own wishes would be easy. The bed had been comfortable and sizable. The washroom had plenty of organizing space and the sofa sat beside a large picture window that currently viewed Earth and its night star-peppered sky.

: : : : : : : : : : : : She tucked the last of her clothing in the closet and closed the doors smiling to herself. She was at peace and it had been long since she felt it. With a smile and a quick check in the mirror to make sure her uniform was on straight, she left her quarters and made her way to the Lt. Commander's Office. She hoped he would be there. The trepidation she felt was probably quite natural. She disliked having people poke at her. Emalene had had enough of that living on a planet full of telepaths and empaths. It could not be helped however, and she decided to make the most of it. Surely the counselor would not be any worse than any she had met before.

: : : : : : : : : : : : It took her several more minutes to find the place than Emalene wished, but she knew she would get to understanding her ship soon enough. She stood before his office door and rang the chime doorbell. "Cadet Emalene Epoch reporting for evaluation sir."

: : : : : : : The door slid open with a regular Starfleet woosh. Standing before the young Cadet, was an equally nervous-looking Junior Councelor. The human female smiled slightly and moved her blonde hair out of her eyes with a practiced motion. Her beaming blue eyes pervayed her nervousness mixed with a underlying urge to help. She smiled warmingly before saying
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Cadet.. I appologise for keeping you waiting.. I am Junior Councelor Varnn.. you can call me Emelia however.. " she gestured behind her with an open palm "come in... "
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Varnn, aCNS
: : : : : :
: : : : : : The person before her was not who she was expecting. Stumbling, she muttered, "Umm Ma'am." in apology to the woman that arrived at the door. Apparently the Ships Counselor was not in. Emalene dipped her head and smiled nervously, completely at a loss. Striving to be adaptable she straightened as she entered the office. "Emelia is a beautiful name. It is much like mine. I am Emalene, as I stated before. My brother's name is Emilio, also similar." Her voice went from nervous to warm at the mention of her brother and then back to formality. She could sense the Junior Counselor was as nervous as she. It lay at the surface and not only was etched on her mind, but her face as well. "It is my pleasure to meet you and it was hardly any wait at all. I think everything these days is going by so fast for me. It is all the excitement of being on board my first ship as you probably know." Turning back toward the woman, Emalene presented her file, nice, neat and clean.

: : : : : : "Here is my paperwork. I have already checked in with Dr. Webb who gave me my physical. I have passed of course. As soon as I am cleared by you, I will be able to get to work." Of course this was the purpose of her visit. She wondered for what circumstances she might need the Counselors' services in the future. Emalene was aware that many people spoke highly of the profession and many of her race naturally veered toward that office in Star Fleet.

: : : : : Thanks for posting here Elliot!

: : : :
: : : : The nervousness seemed to be slowly slipping away from Varnn as the Cadet continued to talk. "I remember what it was like to be a Cadet.. fresh faced and happy.. thank you for the paperwork.. " she took the PaDD and took a look a moment "So.. how are you finding it here on the ship?..... "
: : : :

: : :
: : :
: : : Fresh faced and happy. She wondered if all cadets were happy to be here. "The ship is a rather nice change of pace from my home. Betazed is all about what is tangible, beautiful and luxurious, or at least that is mostly what I have experienced. I know not everyone has the things I did growing up. I like the sleek lines of space ships. The quarters are easy enough to decorate as I wish though I do not think I will be making many substantial changes." She thought longingly of a vase she loved at home that perhaps her sister could ship to her. The multicolored glass seemed to glow on its own. And then perhaps some fabric to drape in strategic areas to make the space seem bigger. Lost in her thoughts for a few moments, Emalene then turned to the cadet, curiosity getting the better of her. "Are there people on the ship who are not excited to be here? I couldn't imagine feeling complacent or bored at the thought of beginning my career in Star Fleet."

: : ooc: Not bad posting here, Amber! Remember, Paragraphs are your friends! I will reply here as the aCNS to keep the thread going for you. Normally we don't control other characters ;p

: :
: : "I suppose that it's possible that there are, in fact, crew on the ship, who don't want to be here," Varnn replied. "You see, there are requirements to make certain pay grades."
: :
: : "For example, a Lt. Commander needs to have speant four years at the academy plus at least another twealve years assigned to various duty stations, at least four years of which need to be at a starbase, another four years assigned to a starship."
: :
: : "So there might be some officers on a ship assigned there just to be able to make the next pay grade of their rank."

Her brow raised thoughtfully. "On Betazed, of course we use money when necessary. But I thought those in the Federation were not motivated by money, meaning the accumulation of wealth was not important to humans. Is that not the case?" She paused for a moment, pondering.
