: : : : : : : : : "Oh, I be returnin'. I'm the Chief Science Officer. Was here before, but left to go on maternity leave," Talia explained, eyeing the man to gauge his reaction and whether he suddenly didn't want to be around a 'mom'.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Micheal placed the ale down infront of the woman, "That'll be 3 credits ma'am." he said in his soft sccotish accent.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : "Sure thing," O'Shea said with a nod, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a few credits. She slid three over, knowing she'd leave a tip a little later before she left. She took a good sip of the ale and nodded appreciatively. "This be fine, thanks for the tip," she told Joshua.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "How many kids you got?" Josh asked Talia as his eyes lit up. "I have three myself. A boy and two girls, ranging in ages from 11 to 3."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Talia smiled at Joshua, her green eyes sparkling. Somehow she didn't expect that. "Twin girls, 17 months. It be a little busy in me home most days," she said with a laugh.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : A few minutes later the sandy blonde retired marine walked through the door, his eyes scanned the occupants with the depth of detail that said that he been to see the elephant, and come back again. His step was sure and quiet, he walked with his head held high, and with a surety that said he knew how to handle himself. His hair was not quite marine crew but it was short only long enough to reveal its sandy blonde coloring, his face was clean shaven. His eyes settled on the bar keep after a long look at the lovely red head.
: : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Micheal on the other hand had let his hair and beard grow, though not much beyond a slight stuble and a gauge 3....
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : <snip>
: : : : : : : : Josh considered the deal. All of his favorite stories involved his kids but that would bore the crap out of them. Then there were the stories he had tried to forget. He had been stationed at a starbase for most of his career, up until now and at the very beginning of his service. His first assignment was to assist with a war going on with a planet being considered for entry into the Federation. They had been in the middle of the approval process when the leader of the planet was assasinated and a coup deployed. Instead, a dictator took over and the common people pleaded with the Federation for assistance. When the Marines arrived, there was death all over. Kids, women, the old and the sick. Impaled, burned, quartered, decapitated, and phaser shot. It had scared Josh for life and he had never mentioned the mission to Casey.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : He doubted they wanted to hear that tale either, so he would have to keep it on the lighter side. They were, after all, out in the pub to have a good time, not to be reminded of dark things. "When I was stationed on the Starbase, I was in charge of the weapons stock and such. Well we got a new security Chief who thought he was the greatest thing that ever happened to Star Fleet. He was an older fellow and bragged about his heroics in the Dominion War. It never made sense to any of us why he would still be a lieutenant after 25 years in Star Fleet, especially if he went above and beyond the call of duty during the War."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "Well one day, one of the new Marines fresh from boot camp and eager to be one of us, brought along an old war artifact that had been in her family for generations. It was a hand Grenade from War World Two, and she passed it around to show the group of us lounging around in Cargo Bay 2. Well the COS decided to make a visit and saw the Grenade and belittled us for our fascination with the grenade. He claimed he deftly avoided many a weapon during the war including land mines, etc. He was bragging so much and belittling my new Marine that I decided to play a trick. While he was distracted with telling braggart tales, I had one of my crew help me to design and replicate a fake version of the hand grenade. We then carefully hid the real thing so he wouldn't spot it during our trick."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "Once that was done, I had my Marine silently pass on the message to all the other crew so that they wouldn't be alarmed by my plan. A minute or so later, I whistled to the COs and said, 'Hey Lt. Ash, ever see someone do this?' and I started to toss the fake grenade around carelessly, and tried to juggle it with two hand phasers. I missed catching the grenade on purpose and as it was the landing to hit the ground, the COS screamed this high pitched scream," Josh demonstrated by screaming like a dying cow, "and headed for the Cargo Bay doors lickety split...until he tripped on his own feet andbroke his nose in the fall. I Suppose we should have helped him but we were all too busy laughing our butts off at him. He never over inflated his stories after that, and we actually became good friends afterwards."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : M. Capt Thompson
: : : : Micheal shook his head and poured the man another drink. "So your the one that broke Ash's nose....if that doesn't deserve a pint I don't know what does!"
: :
: : "I won't turn that away!" Josh replied with a grin as he took another drink of the Ale he had already ordered. He chugged what was left down and ordered another.
: :
: : : : : : : Talia slapped the bar counter and broke out into wild laughter that was delighted and infectious. "Oh! Poor lad, but sometimes these things need to happen. I've seen many an overinflated ego in the Fleet, no matter yer position." She sipped more of her ale feeling relaxed and happy to be out. She tried not to feel guilty for not being at home with the girls but brushed that crazy thought away. She deserved this!
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Talia O'Shea, CSO
: :
: : : : "Well that comes with the territory M'dear , though I suspect there's a fair few stories the Captain over there could come out with that his CO wouldn't be impressed with." he said with a knowing smirk, he knew what baby officers where like.
: :
: : Josh laughed himself. He probably had made a few mistakes as a young officer, they all did. But he never had a huge and insufferable ego, at least not when he was in uniform. He did have a hunger for the opposite sex and was sometimes over confident in himself, like what happened the night he had tried picking up Harper Winterhawk. They both had ended up going home with other people.
: :
: : : : : : Aaron, did not laugh he did not find it amusing, but rather a commonality amongst officers everywhere. But then again not many people told stories of their own failings, or their own misfortunes why should he expect anything different this time. He did however grunt and take a sip of his drink at his own pendantic musings, and lack of humor to be found. No doubt he would have found it funny had an enlisted man done such a thing to an officer.

: : : : : The red-haired woman eyed the rather sullen man curiously but didn't say anything. He certainly seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and it didn't seem likely to disappear any time soon. Oh well. She hadn't had a good time in… ages! She needed this, to be able to relax without worrying about whether or not the twins needed her. Bit just that though made her wonder how they were doing and she suddenly felt guilty for being away from them. *No, she told herself sternly. Not tonight, no guilt!*
: : : : :
: : : : : "Well, when I be on Cestus III after the Acad'my, we had a rather unfortunate incident involving an eager Ensign and her rather overbearing supervisor that resulted in a wee explosion in a lab. I swear I checked everything a dozen times, but let's just say I must 'ave missed somethin' as me poor boss got a wee bit singed an' so did I. I swear they still be tellin' that story over there," she said with a good natured laugh. Her and her CSO sort of bonded over it a bit though, so it had been a rather fortuitous accident.
: : : : :
: : : : : Talia O'Shea, CSO
: : :
: : : : Micheal took another sip of tea then smiled, "You sound just like my last CSO, too keen and eager for your own good! Good lord there where a few incidents like that. I felt more like a father with unruly kids than a CO!" he said thinking of Halai.

: :
: : Josh laughed at Talia's story and loved her sense of humor. He tried to not think of Lt. Schroll, after all, she wanted to build a friendship before anything else. In the meantime, Josh was a hot blooded man and Talia was a beautiful woman. "That's why I always tried to keep out of the Chemistry lab. I was always more afraid of blowing myself up while toying with beakers but was always relaxed around phaser rifles and land mines."
: :
"Typical bootie, not at home if he isn't with his precious rifle and at least half a Bergen full of explosives." he said in a teasing fashion.
: : : OOC: So very odd. I feel like I have a split personality here. :P
OOC: Just wait until I start posting on the vanguard again :P

: : : "Well, one canno' be a true scientist without havin' caused a wee bit o' mayhem, especially in the early days. I daresay we grow out of it, but some never do," O'Shea said with a laugh. Talia drank some more of the ale and rested an arm on the bar. "Besides, 'ave ta keep things interesting. Nothin' worse than a boring ship," she said with a wink.
: : :
: : : "You be a Captain for long while I take it?" Talia asked curiously
"I was Captain for about 2 years, then I got dragged into the DTI world. I tell you though, those where the 2 maddest years of my life. My CSO managed at one point to get the entire crew high on some powder she'd cooked up in the lab. Ended up with my CSO riding one of my ensigns who thought he was an ostrich to the bridge, in the end I had to knock out the entire crew with a sleeping agent." he said finishing his tea and making another.

: :
: : Josh turned and focused on the man serving them drinks. He seemed like a very experienced fellow and the Marine was sure there was much he could tell his patrons.
: :
: : M. Capt Thompson
:
: After finishing his third drink, and leaving a small tip for the man be behind the bar, Aaron pushed himself away from the bar, the el aurian was begining to wonder why he had come to this backwater rock. It was not the job, nor was it the money, it was the excitement of the hunt that drove him. Aaron glanced at the other marine as he straightened his coat and considered the door. He was not ready to retire, not for the night, not from the corp, but life does not often give you the reins, maybe his discharge had been a new opportunity to travel the universe and definitely make more money.

: Aaron Cross Civillian
Micheal glanced at the man, gave him a nod then went back to his other customers.

- Micheal MacNeil, Old Barkeep :P
