: : : : : He stared at the bottle of scotch sitting in front of him to his left. On the right sat a picture of Ashlynn and Ali. He groaned and grabbed his head, trying to fight the urge to go into bad habits. Every year it was hard, and he thought this year would be better as the anniversary grew closer. After all, he has someone who loved him as much as he loved her, and he was a father figure to the most amazing little girl he knew. Yet, it as if it wasn't enough to squash the urge.

: : : : : He grabbed his head in his hands before leaning back on the couch. When his eyes were open he saw the scotch, when they were closed, he saw the accident. He saw Kadence burning, her face smashed and bleeding from hitting the console in the crash. He wanted to scream as memories of the stench of burning flesh and the sound of popping skin blisters filled his head. He did it to her, him and the alcohol inside of him. The alcohol taunting him a foot away from where he now sat.

: : : : : He wanted to break something, he wanted to snap and yet he wanted to bawl like a little baby. He had avoided ashlynn these last few days, afraid he couldn't even look her in the eyes without feeling shame for being the monster he truly was. Rinker was right, he was nothing, he was a low life and he didn't belong in anyone's life.

: : : : Ash was worried about Shawn, he had been avoiding her and she wanted to know why. She had an inkling about it but she needed to make sure he was okay. She was hesitant as she reached the door to his quarters and rang the chime. She had left Ali with the holo nanny while she came to check on Shawn. Ash didn't know what she would find when the door opened or if the door would even open but she had to take that chance.

: : : He gritted his teeth as the chime rang and interrupted his thoughts. He gripped the edge of the table to help pull himself up. Whoever it was at the door, he would get rid of them as fast as he could so he could get on with drinking. He stumbled to the door, almost as if he was in a trance. He opened the doors and for a few seconds didn't recognize Ashlynn. Finally, it dawned on him who it was standing in front of him.

: : : "Ashlynn....I was just..going to bed. You should be with Ali." He said as he looked away from her. His face was flushed and the dark circles were still under his eyes.

: : Ash wasn't going to be put off "Shawn, stop. Look at me. Ali's fine and with the nanny. I'm where I need to be." She said "I need to know what's going on. You're not okay. You haven't been for several days." She looked at him, the man that she was falling head over heels for "Is it Kadence?" She asked "Are you dreaming about her?" Ash knew about the accident, Shawn had been very open about it and she knew that it had happened right around this time.

: He rubbed his forehead vigorously with his fingers as he looked to the floor. He then clucked his tongue and pounded his fist onto his hip as he turned away from her. She didn't need this stress in her life. He should be looking after her and not the other way around. But what use would it be to lie to her? She would feel as if he didn't have faith in her or thought lowly of her. "Yes...after all these years and after I have now that is perfect, I still dream of the accident and the damage I have done."

Ash stepped into his quarters "Shawn, you can't forget what happened. It happened." SHe said taking his hands "Look at me." She spoke quietly "I know this hurts and it will always hurt, but...but you can't beat yourself up about it. You are not the person you were then. You have changed." She spoke with a quiet confidence "I've seen some of the changes. You are a loving and caring person that has had a lot of hurt in the past, but it has made you a stronger person today." She ran her fingers through his hair "Don't shut me out. Let me help."
