: : : : : That made the Captain smile. Melaia had picked up on the emotions as they shifted in the CE and simply took them in stride. "There's nothing wrong with being assigned somewhere. Rarely do we get a choice. I myself was assigned here as an XO after my first XO assignment ended when our ship was crippled. I had skills but no ship, and it would be months before the refit was done. They sent me to the Academy instead, to this ship's predecessor. It had been a long time since I'd been a cadet, so I was rather nervous. Rather quickly I found myself the Captain." She looked around her room slowly, almost wistfully. "It does have a way of growing on you," she told Casey with a sincere smile.

: : : : Casey sipped her coffee and pondered. Yes, it had been a long time since she'd been a Cadet. She wondered how running a department of them would work. If she were on a larger ship she might be concerned about it, but the Discovery class was so small, she could practically run it herself. "I expect it will, ma'am." Casey replied.
: : : :
: : : "Please, ma'am isn't necessary. This is just a chat and I tend t be a little less formal behind closed doors, and sometimes elsewhere where it works better in that situation. Captain is fine if you prefer, but if it's just us, you're welcome to call me Melaia. I like to be on a first name basis with my senior staff since goodness knows we see enough of each other," she commented with a smile.

: : Casey smiled and nodded in understanding (OOC: But how do you actually pronounce it?? I've been wondering! :) ).
: :
: OOC: Nothing complicated: 'Me-LIE-a'. :)
:
: : : : "I haven't been on a vessel this small since the Academy either. Well, you know, as an engineer that is." Of course she'd been on transports and shuttles and such!

: : : "It's… cozy," Reez said with a chuckle. "I've served on larger ships a great deal too, so it takes time to get used to a ship this size. Mainly you'll find that it's easier to bump into people more and that can sometimes cause some conflict. Everyone wants to help, and keep busy, so you have to keep an eye on the over eager ones."

: :
: : She pondered that. "The Endeavour isn't very old... I suppose I should think up some engineering projects to keep those over eager Cadets busy, since we likely won't have a lot of maintenance worries?"

: Reez couldn't help herself, and a snort of laughter came out of her mouth before a hand slapped over stifling it. Her dark eyes went a little wide before she removed her hand. "Sorry, I wasn't laughing at you, truly. It's just that we had the ship hijacked with us on it while we were in spacedock, so yes it's new and had all it's repairs, but it's already taken significant damage." She wasn't going to tell her CE that chaos followed her like a lonely puppy and that all her ships tried to explode in one way or another, since that might give the wrong impression. Or the right one depending on how you looked at it.
:
Casey's eyes got wide... "Hijacked by who?!" She wasn't 'afraid' so much as just amazed that someone had been able to hijack a Federation ship at spacedock. "And if you don't mind I'd like a list of the damage sustained and the repairs made. Those are the first places to start when doing routine maintenance." Good grief! A battle maintenance checklist already!

: "Projects are good and I welcome creative endeavours, pardon the pun, in order to engage the cadets. We also try to give them as real an experience as possible, but given history as of late, that shouldn't prove too difficult.

"It sounds like this may not be as boring a posting as I had been lead to believe?" She asked, somewhat mischievously. She was quickly growing to like this new CO and her way with things. She had put Casey at ease pretty quickly and developed a rapport. Casey was beginning to see that working here might actually be a challenge.
