He was eager to begin the analysis of their guests in person, but knew they likely needed a little time to adjust to the ship before proceeding into a battery tests. He tried to make the best use of the time.

: : : : : : : : : Now that their guests, were aboard, he was hopeful the path to unravel the mystery before them would come more easily. He hoped with the proximity of the sensors to the live party, they would begin to get additional results.

: : : : : : : : While the computer was running the genetic analysis, Colyn used the time to run calibration routines on the lab equipment throughout the department. He wanted everything to be in top working order when the investigation continued in person. He kept an eye on the computer readout, and started to gather up some portable equipment to bring to the other decks. He linked his science tricorder to the ship's main science library, and computer array. If their guests were unable to come down to the lab directly, he figured he could in essence bring the power of the lab to them.

: : : : : The CSO looked up from his panel to see to a medical cadet standing stiffly. He smiled cordially and gestured to one of the empty chairs in front of his desk, "At ease, my good Doctor. Won't you please have a seat... Certainly, I would be most interested in hearing about your idea. Permission to speak freely." Skye nodded to the cadet, indicating that he had the CSO's full attention.

" well my idea was to use the gentic blueprint saved in the transporter buffers for our guests and use the transporter buffers to beam a sample of thier gentic material to the genetics lab" he paused " That way we can get all the samples we need with out making the quests fell like pin cussion. What do you think sir?" he asked his hands where shaking and sweating he could fell a lump in his throught. he wondered what the CSO would think of his idea would he dicared it and say it was silly or would he say it was a good idea. William did not know which ione he feared more.

"Well my good doctor, you bring up an interesting concept, which in fact might prove of some benefit. However, have you considered the ramifications of what you are proposing? What will our esteemed guests say when we tell them we have retained their genetic material in our buffers, without their knowledge? While your idea is in fact quite creative, the timing is somewhat unfortunate, as we no longer have the opportunity to discuss this idea with them proactively, that is, before they arrived through the transporter. The question then arises, have there already been any modifications made to the transporter buffer protocol specifically to obtain genetic material? As a doctor, I am sure you are well versed in the concept of informed consent....And my good doctor, one other problem comes to mind. What do we know about the stability of the genetic material in the buffer - is degradation an issue? Certainly, you can imagine the negative consequences, should recommendations be made on flawed biologic material, specifically when involving genetic code."

: : : The CSO spoke with an honest, yet serious tone, underlying the point that actions could have very real, if sometimes unforeseen effects.

: : William listend and took in what the cso said and then after a pause he spoke. William had had a feeling all the time that it might not work and the CSO had confiremed his own thought. after a while william spoke "Thank you sir for your time. it appears i will hae to think of a new idea because as you say they woild not be aware of it and it would be a breach in protical for me to do this with out thier consent" he paused "i am sorry i did not think of this before it appears i have wasted yur time and i am sorry sir" willkiam spoke with a tone of respect and general regret for wasting the CSO's time.

: The CSO could tell the cadet was rather disheartened, and while it was not his intention to diminish the young doctor's enthusiasm, it was in fact his duty, both to this young man, and to the mission as a whole, to not only think things through to the best of his ability, but to also illustrate the importance of doing so. He spoke with an honest, almost avuncular warmth. "Dr. Lionheart, William, if I may, you have not wasted may time at all. As I have indicated, your idea is very creative, and in fact may prove quite useful. We simply need to work through a few details, both as a courtesy to our guests, as well as for their own safety. Now tell me, was the transporter buffer altered in any way from normal protocol? If not, we can simply relate the idea as it developed - I would imagine our guests would have little objection to standard transporter use, else they would have arrived by other means. On the other hand, if the buffer was altered, we would need to have an open discussion about that too.....As far as the issue of degradation, well, with a bright young doctor like yourself on staff, I'd bet we can work that one through as well."

: OOC: Nathan, very nice thread, FYI, I will be on LOA until the end of next week - don't mean to leave things hanging, but we can either pick up then, or adjust however the sim plays out.

OOC: ANd while our esteemed CSO is on LOA, you two docters can go ahead and unite the two delegation doctors in sickbay or the genetics lab - whatever you choose - and start examining them. Do take the lead in this, you`re doing very well and I think you can manage even without a DH around. :-)
