    Background:

Makaio and Zoe were just strangers in the night who happened to conceive a child together. They never formerly dated and of course never married. Kaliona spent her first ten years mostly with her mother, until her father was retired from active duty in 2355. Her mother then sent Kaliona to go live with her father as Kaliona was quite rambunctious, (which is how she received her name, Kaliona means one lion in Hawaiian). Zoe felt that spending time with her strict father would enlighten Kaliona into being more calm and studious. The time spent on Makaio’s sugar cane farm was the most replenishing and magical in her life. She learned many a lesson from her father and also gained a sense of her ancestry. Makaio often encouraged his daughter to join Star-fleet, knowing that her soul searched for exploration. Zoe was against it, preferring Kaliona remain a civilian, fearing that Kaliona had never really matured as Makaio claimed. Zoe thought Kaliona would not be Star-fleet Material. Kaliona disregarded Zoe, and pointed out that her mother had not seen her in person since Kaliona was 12 years of age. When Kaliona entered Star-fleet Academy in 2362, Zoe ceased contact and the two have remained estranged for the last 22 years.

Kaliona of course, took an interest to body surfing and won some competitions in local contests. She is also an avid hydrosailor and pool player. She enjoys listening to music of Andorian origin and reading about the 19th century of Earth. She was involved with a Denobulan named Tholix, but could not deal with the fact that he had 2 wives and wanted her to be his third. Not wanting him to deny his Denobulan heritage, Kaliona broke it off when she was transferred to the USS Sentinel. She had several other relationships, but often put her work in front of her personal life, therefore she never became deeply involved and her partners often drifted away.

It is revealed that she has had a string of episodes of attachment to one Lt. Commander Alexxander J. Ryley, current CMO of the USS Atlantis. They had met back in the Academy, ending the relationship after her graduation year. They became involved once more during a mission on Anort 6, and even lived together as common law onboard the USS Alaska. The pair once more broke up and she pushed her career ahead of her personal desires. In 2386, they decide to give it another try, hooping that age and wisdom will help them make it last. It is this relationship, with her being the CO and he the CMO which eventually (factored with several reasons) led to her demotion. She is now trying to restore her life, with her soulmate hopefully by her side

    Medical History:

Kaliona suffered from various viruses but always remained to have a healthy immune system. In 2361, she was body surfing when a storm came up. She had ignored the weather system warning, thinking the storm would provide better waves. But it turned out to be a moderate storm and the waves crashed her into some rocks. A friend named Sharla bravely saved Kaliona who suffered several broken ribs, a pierced spleen and broken legs. She was rushed to a medical facility where she spent a month recovering. *Update* in 2386 it is revealed she was pregnant with one Dr. Shawn Henricksons child during the body surfing accident. They had been Teenage Lovers. She lost the secret child and because of this, was deemed infertile. Dr. Ryley performed a secret and experimental surgery using Seamonkian reproduction organs from Aquillius. The surgery, as they seem to believe, was successful.
