Jurok is half Human with Vulcan and Betazoid ancestry. His mother, half Human/half Vulcan, is an acomplished scientist on Vulcan. Jurok's father, half Human/half Betazoid, was a Starfleet engineer who was lost during the test of an experimental warp engine when Jurok was 13 earth years of age. Jurok grew up learning science from his mother and excels at astronomy, biology, and quantum physics but has more than a passing interest in warp theory due to his fathers early enginering influence. His influence also eventually led Jurok to join Starfleet rather than pursue the research field. After his fathers death, Jurok lived part time on Earth with his paternal grandparents.

Although Jurok has typical Vulcan physical traights and mental abilities, he is more Betazoid/Human at heart and has red blood. His Betzoid background is evident in his nearly black eyes and telephathy. Although born with only empathic sensitivity, an encounter with nanites during an away mission reorganized the telepathic center of his brain to that of a full Betazoid. He also has the unique ability to initiate a Vulcan mind meld without physical contact with the subject due to the Vulcan/Betazoid blending.
