Background

Jack was born in the city of Chicago on Earth, to the father was a Civil Engineer and mother a Commander in Star Fleet who was stationed on Earth doing in the Academy science department. He has one younger sister. Jack knew from a young age he was destined to follow his father and mothers footsteps, his father's by becoming an Engineer, his mother by enrolling into Star Fleet. As soon as he was of age, he enlisted into the Academy's Engineering Officer's program and was quickly seen as one of the most promising students.

During his Academy stay, Jack quickly found promise not only in Engineering, but Command, his dominate personality often shined, making him seem arrogant, and cocky. On top of this he seemed to take very little outside of his studies seriously, often seen as the class comic by many. These qualities often got him many friends, but could turn others off just as easy.

This is what happened during the third year in the Academy, meeting Elizabeth Buford, a woman who was in his class that find him utterly repulsive at first meeting, the two latter after persistence on Jack's part, became a couple, even getting Engaged on the last year in the Academy. They continued to blossom there romance by getting assigned to the same ship after graduation, the USS Kraken.

The USS Kraken was attacked by the Borg in 2380, an attack that killed Elizabeth, an action that Jack blamed himself for. Through her death Jack became closed off from others, often using his sense of humor as a shield, keeping other people at bay. His transfers came quick after this incident, even though it got Jack promoted to Lt (j.g) and a commendation for bravery, his poor personality made him clash with the other ships afterwords.

During this same time, both his parents died when there vessel which was transporting them to Risa was hit by an electrical storm that destroyed it, this incident continued to push him inwards. Jack's relationship with his sister during this time became very strained as well, the two even felling apart when he refused to go to his parents funeral. This became more compacted with his refusal to come to the baptism ceremony of his niece.

It wasn't until his transfer to Starbase 209, where Jack meet a Chief Petty Officer Yucov Korlouv, a crewmen under Jack's command during the night shifts on the Starbase. The Petty Officer saw through most of Jack's walls, getting him to open up and be able to get past his turmoil. Eventually this lead to Jack becoming acting Chief of Operations and his transfer to the USS Asimov as Chief Engineer.

After an exemplary career aboard the USS Asimov, he was promoted twice in a very short time, after the incidence with "Mother" Jack was promoted to full Lieutenant, this action brought the Attention of Commander Akasha, who saw his actions and leadership skills as a proper replacement for her, who was stepping down as XO of the Asimov. With her recombination and Captain Jim Merret's approval, he was promoted in just a week after his Lieutenant promotion to Lt. Commander and transferred to Command and took over as the XO.

Jack has still had a strained relationship with his sister Julie, who he has yet to make an attempt to repair it. This has been on his heart lately since his transfer to the Asimov, but he has held off talking out of fear of her response.
