Melody’s parents were both musicians and toured Federation space performing and taking Melody along.

Her father, George, was a talented cello player and her mother Savannah was a flutist.

From an early age Melody was exposed to other cultures and picked up a smattering of several languages.

Her parents encouraged her to follow their footsteps with a career in the arts and she learned to play both the violin and the clarinet.

Though she was a capable musician, she felt she had no real talent for music and instead preferred science and engineering.

Despite her parents objections, she applied and was accepted to Star Fleet Academy.

Her first assignment was on the USS Endurance as a science officer. She served there for six years and earned the rank of full Lt.

She was promoted to Lt. Cmdr and transferred to the USS Hercules to accept a position as their CSO where she served for four years.
