: : : Hi all,
: : :
: : : A member asked in IRC recently how do you emphasize specific words in a post. So I thought I'd throw that question around in here and saw what the associated 'wisdom' of the club can come up with :) The member said he uses * * for thoughts.

: : Depending on my mood, I go with either * * or single quotes ( ' ' ) to denote thoughts.

: I agree, as I was taught, back when, enclosing your text in asterisks denoted thoughts, not said aloud. I also use single quotes, from time to time, to enclose a word or phrase for emphasis. I have even seen the occasional person use the tilde marks (~~). I guess that's acceptable as well, though a bit out of place.

Thanks for that, Joe and Brian
Yeah ... this member was wanting to know about emphasizing a particular important word in a post as opposed to a thought. An important word for example. I know that in books they either underline or bold or use all caps important words ... but of course underline and bold aren't possible in our posts.
Personally, I like to use ALL CAPS when emphasizing certain words in posts ... but i also know that constitutes shouting.
