PDir COMMENTS

The second month at the helm of the department has found my job much easier. As I get used to the way things are done, more and more, the duties seem easier to manage, and the time it takes them to get completed gets more manageable.

I am very satisfied with the performance of the staff, everyone does a great job, and makes sure that their responsibilities are done promptly, I really do appreciate that.

Dan and Jemma have been wonderful in maintaining their duties and have are a great help to me. Obviously this department is not a one man job, and without them, I'd be lost.

The Mentors team are also doing a fantastic job. Joe and Mandy keep on top of their job responsibilities as well, and see to it that Mentors notices are sent nearly immediately, a fantastic turnaround time.

Last, but certainly not least, Cale, as our Yearbook Coordinator is making the best of her situation as well. With an admittedly slower paced job, she keeps busy and stay on top of her job duties. She has updated the Present and Former member books in the Yearbook, and went through to assure that people were where they needed to be.

I have implemented a few minor changes in the internal management of the department this month, with the help of Dan and Jemma both. As previous members of the PDept, they both have excellent ideas about how things should be done, to maintain a smoothly operating environment.

I think we had a successful month, we got placements completed in 24-48 hours on almost all instances, and questions answered on the same day they were received. I think the staff and I have a fantastic turnaround time, and are working at peak efficiency, great job guys!

APDir COMMENTS

This month has really seen a lot of work in the PDept. At the end of August,
we put into place the 2APDir position, and September has allowed us to see
the beneficial return - which has really been outstanding. The work for
processing new applications, which really became more time-intensive when we
moved to WeBBspace last January, has now been split between all three of us,
which has allowed us to a) put more time into processing the application, b)
have time for other STF work we each have personally, as well as RL
requirements, and c) allow us to also concentrate on some much needed policy
development in light of the many changes to STF over the past year.

Having Brian as PDir has been great. With his substantial STF experience,
but relative 'newness' to the PDept, we've had a chance to develop (and
continue to develop) the policies and procedures by my suggestions of how
'we used to do it', and Brian looking at it from the other end and asking
why we do that or saying how we can do it better. I think October is going
to be an even greater month in that respect.

I should also note that I've been quite impressed with some of the new tools
in place to ease up the time in new member placements. One of those, the
Junior Officer Vacancy list, was an experiment put in place by Jemma last
February/March to deal with the loss of the Master Roster. At the time, I
was very skeptical about how useful it could be. Upon my return to the
PDept, I have now discovered just how useful it can really be, and I've come
to rely on it quite a bit myself. So I wanted to take the opportunity to
congratulate Jemma on putting that together originally.

MENTORS COORDINATOR COMMENTS

Notes:

We had a slightly better than 50% rate of reply this month for mentor responses, so over 50% of those who requested a mentor received a response (that I also received a response for). I didn't quite have time this month to make sure that the mentor's list for the ships were up to date, but I'm hoping to have time this upcoming month to make sure all the ships have mentors.

Notes:

Total number of mentor requests: 14
Number of academy mentor requests: 8
Number of non-academy mentor requests: 6

Number of mentorees that are active or new: 14
Number of academy mentorees that are active or new: 8
Number of non-academy mentorees that are active or new: 6

Number of mentor requests that were not confirmed by the mentor: 6

YEARBOOK COORDINATOR COMMENTS

Well it's month two as my reign as insane asylum keep...I mean year book panda. In many ways this month has been a bit more productive than last. We've managed to keep those lemurs away indefinitely this time and on that front the year book has stopped being chewed upon.

We've again had two photos sent in. One up on last month for new photos. Bringing our total of new photos to three in the past two months. In saying this it is my opinion that the Year Book really needs more public light than what it is receiving. Most of our members don't even know where the bloody thing is. And if we want it a nice big success this has got to change. I would ask do all CO's have the link to the year book on their MOTDs? If not can we change this?

We took some initiative, and much prodding from the Pdept Bear, and cleaned the place up. Got rid of some cobwebs changed the layout and updated the current and previous members sections and the Captions of each photo. They now display the member's command positions and government positions if any and where appropriate their Animal nickname :)
Finally am pleased to report that i managed to get hold of Larry for a couple of moments this month. After ascertaining who i was :) he and i briefly discussed the yearbook's future and i am awaiting a prod back from him about that when he gets a spare second. Unfortunately due to other projects he has under his belt this may be a little while but not to worry ^^ All in all we're getting there slowly but surely.
