Damn, RL can be busy! Apologies for the lack of noise that has been coming from this department - although that is due to change within the next few days when we release our Agenda for this term. Read more in the Acad HQ!

Report submitted by: Joe Fahey

This month was fairly uneventful from my end, other than Jack's LOA. However, I still haven't been added to the VCmdt forward, so my apologies to anyone who contacted me via that channel. Other than that, I don't have much to report on.

Ship Overview:
The ship is doing well. The cadets are very active, needing minimal guidance from their DHs

Sim Review:
The sim seems to be running well so far.

Spotlight:
Dan Snell and the rest of the away team are all doing phenomenally.

Ship Overview:
We have a presence of cadets from each department and this has helped the flow of the sim and even just normal posting. In fact the existing Cadets are doing better than the DH's for posting. While it is a slow ship by designation it is quite hard to actually get that level of posting consistent by all, as some go quicker and some slower. That said, the ship is doing better than in its first months and from the feel of it the Cadets are developing more confidence in stepping out in their posts. This is very good to see and a healthy maturation in posting. I've noticed that the slow pace has shown some lack of 'flow' resulting in needing to point the way to the players and DH's alike. This, however, is not a huge problem; it was only compounded by Cadets coming and going and things left unfinished.

Sim Review:
We're so close to the end I can taste it. The trouble is on a slow ship that might be a long, lingering taste. The away team has gotten past its barrier of the plasma leak and fire in the corridors of the Alexandra, an old ore carrier. Tracks were found that were both old and new; the new from a person they had spotted earlier in the corridors and the old from what looked like someone dragged through the corridor. The Away Team split up. One, led by the XO, found the old tracks led to a locked room with several life signs inside - two of which were low. They currently are attempting to find a way in that would be safe given the toxic nature of the air in the ship. The other team, led by the COS, came to the same individual doing something to an airlock. When challenged he fired on the away team. The COS fired back, clipping him. Whether he is down or not is the question, not to mention what he was trying to do.

Solve these two small challenges and vent the corridor safely to quash the existing fires yet going and this sim will be effectively done.

Spotlight:
Dan Snell, Bella DeBrose and Brienna Jenkins showed good initiative in their posts this month. Most notably in a 'lounge' thread where there was excellent character development.

Ship Overview:
Hmm well the DH's are doing okay, Dan and I have had to work a bit in giving them advice and in keeping the sim going. But we are getting there:) The Cadets that are posting and participating are doing well. I don't know if it's my imagination but we seem to have a high turnover rate with this sim. I thought that once the summer was over the Cadets wouldn't drop out as bad but they still seem to be.

I have worked with the DH's in focusing on their welcome letters so that the Cadets are getting the proper welcome and instructions in how to start posting. It does seem as though the Cadets that we do talk to and help out are finding it a complex thing to start out. I worry that with some that they have found it too hard and quit because of it. Perhaps we need to look at this?

Sim Review:
Hmm well we are getting closer to getting finished simwise. Joe figures we'll be done around Oct 9th which is the 3 month mark. Looking at my Cadets I figure I should have anywhere between 4-6 Cadets graduating.

Spotlight:
Annabelle Grant is a total natural at this and she should def be looked at for a DH position once she graduates. Brenda Faulkner is also a natural at this but would like to see a little more out of her first. Mike Brown is another one that upon graduation could be looked at for a DH position. He has a natural aptitude for it. All three of our scientists Davi, Matthew and Audrey are doing very well too and are taking the sim forward very well.

Ship Overview:
Nothing major one way or the other. The cadet retentions have started to stabilize again, which is good for the ship. Getting close to graduating many of our cadets...

Sim Review:
Looks like we're coming soon to the climax of the sim. Unfortunately, many of the cadets who were on the away team ended up leaving, and the new cadets were stuck away from the away team. But Joe has done a good job at changing up the sim so all the cadets can stay involved. We should be wrapping up in a few weeks.

Spotlight:
Matthew Royale gets my nod this month, in his role as a science cadet on the away team. He's done a great job at playing his character and taking the initiative while remaining within the confines of both the level of a cadet and the GM-operated sim.

Ship Overview:
It seems that most everyone is posting every day almost. We've gotten back on track and moving along quite nicely. The sim should be complete by early Oct.

Sim Review:
The away team has entered the research facility and closed the door before the mutated creatures could munch on anyone else. Inside they've found two Feringi trying to make a quick latinum bar and being trapped inside themselves. In a deserted room, a sonic shower is going on and a few cadet's/ Dh's have their intrest's peaked.

Meanwhile, the medical dept is answering a call to the lounge to break up a fight and tend to an injured crewman.

Report submitted by: Gene Gibbs

Ship Overview:
We'd be doing a whole lot better if we didn't have disappearing Cadet syndrome. We've had a considerable level of attrition lately which from my understanding via e-mails that has little to do with here but more to do with RL and its demands. We've put three people on hold off the roster who were excellent posters though who simply were having RL time issues and could not continue in the short term. Add to that two this month who wrote saying they didn't have time and that takes a bite out of any roster. I'm down one COS position, and in general security and science has been a revolving door. With the state of the sim and the 'again' disruption of integrating another COS into the mix, I'm opting to not immediately fill it and continue the sim as it is with what and who we have as the sim draws to its conclusion. I'll be seeking another shortly though, so if anyone is interested ..

That being said, the existing Cadets are doing well. Since getting themselves sorted out on the field where they know what they are doing it has made it much easier for them to operate, and in some cases utilizing NE's to bolster the roster. The DH's are great, though we do miss Sam Bibb, our XO, who has been away with a RL crisis.

Sim Review:
I can feel it building to a climax here as Phil brings us to the conclusion of the sim. The pieces are set as it were in the chess game of the 'capture the flag' and I sense the resolution is near as the activity in the sim is more focused. I think that this turned out to be more complex for Phil than was previously thought, though he has handled it well. With the momentum gaining there is a greater excitement for involvement that I am seeing. I suspect it too will be done in October where we will, sadly, need to say farewell to Phil.

Spotlight:
Lloyd and Jared have done wonderfully in keeping the sim focused and progressing. Steven Ice and Michael Alvarez are doing well in their roles; Michael very well in his sole security position and with his utilization of NE's. Rick Wyler, as usual, is a solid poster.
