Discussion: Cadet Development on Starfleet Academy
: Please excuse my comments if inappropriate, I have recently gained access to Academy Admin, worked as a green cadet promoted to a DH and not familiar with the overall structure of STF and STF's personalities, yet. It seems that I have had a large turnover of cadets in my department and being a cadet is still quite fresh in my mind as well as my motivation to belong to STF. I am frank and type a bit too much, maybe I think too much or not enough? Now my thoughts:
: A mentor should not be an option to new cadets. Even a welcome, direction to library/handbook and a tactful comment or two would be accepted as a friendly gesture to experienced RPers or they may not last long to begin with... Mentors/DH could suggest an entry or what to look for --- EPS malfunction, another new cadet reporting for physical, weapons testing in the halodeck, lunch with the DH or XO. Cadets may leave if they are bored. Yes, a mentor for DHs would be helpful. Yes, I am probably also guilty of not researching "how to" in the library or a DH handbook? I have read other entries in other fleets but, I don't know if I was reading good posting or good story... I really liked the Engineering course and worked on it.... but if I passed, I get to, ah, um... be a DH of Engineering? Lt Commander?
: I do not know if cadets are over committing themselves the day they submit to be a cadet - school, RL, rather distroy Klingons/Imperial Soldiers/Drone Buggers on PC/XBox/PSP/Wii than write about it in a dialog.
: I am not sure if entries/posting are understood by cadets. I think a small one month or less training sim at the Academy would be good. To get the cadet familiar with posting, dialog, formatting, how to find/use handbook/library, how to become a DH, XO, CO, LT Commander.... DHs could visit for a day to get acquainted with cadets and make their vessel sound THEE greatest, how they would like mentor the cadet on board and discuss what goes on... Even allow openly (forgive me) non-Star Trek but definately Sci-Fi science, story lines, characters - I know you have a Star Wars Themed Fleet.
: STF is the best, really. I have not met ANY arrogant leaders or super hero characters or you all have kept it off the STF pages. I think the layout/concept is excellent. And the work yous guys and gals have put into this is extrodinary! It is an outlet for myself (and others, I guess) that I enjoy.

You are more then welcome to post here, Iver. Its you Cadets and past Cadets we need to hear from! I am glad to hear that STF has been so good for you:) We do indeed try:)
Passing courses adds to your resume for applying for DHs, XO, etc.
Krys:)
