The Asimov was sent to investigate a large storm nearing Federation Space. The storm, spanning an entire sector, kills biological life if not protected by a planet's natural EM field or a ship's shields. The Asimov received a distress signal from North Point Colony, a non-Federation Earth Colony in the farthest reaches of explored space, for assistance. The Asimov arrived, but an infection of an unknown organism caused the ship to shut down for repairs, leaving it without shields. The crew, in danger of the approaching storm, beamed down to North Point Colony, a typically inhospitable colony.

The crew and colony were under attack by strange, powerful insect creatures. The leader of the Colony, Director Cyrus Foley, the religious leader of the world, Narasha - the 'Karatex', and Commander Akasha's long lost brother, have met with the Star-Fleet Officers. Captain Fran'Me was knocked unconscious in the attack.

The bugs only attack during the Twilight Hour, and Cyrus has proclaimed that the colony will not survive the next attack. That gives the Asimov 6 hours to survive the attack, then, under the veil of night, save the colony from these creatures... all without the help of their ship, the Asimov. Askasha is leading an away team down below the surface of the planet, where the bug attack is believed to have come from. The mission? Ascertain the causes of the attack and stop them.

The Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Cassidy, is leading a separate away mission to the planet's surface to study the ecology of the planet, hoping to find a clue to the attacks on that front. The crew still on the floating North Point Colony is desperately trying to repair the anti-grav generators, in hopes that the colony can make it through another attack, if it happens.
