Calling all designers! I am looking for people interested in designing the faces of our great RPG environments, the MOTDs. if you've got XHTML and CSS skills and a good eye for design get in contact to offer your support.

There is at least one ship (the Rogue) currently looking for a new design and there will be plenty of opportunities to contribute your skills so I'm looking to set up a forward where MOTD maintainers can email to find a designer.

There will be a planned outage of WeBBspace this Thursday afternoon (Thanksgiving in the US) for scheduled database maintenance. Although the process should only take a few minutes we are going to schedule an hour's downtime from 2 PM EST to 3 PM EST. During this time WeBBspace will be offline and inaccessible except to administrators performing maintenance.

As this is right in the middle of Thanksgiving in the USA we anticipate it being a low-traffic period anyway.

Ladies and gents,

For a long time people in the club have been asking "can we get access to the old posts?". In the past, we've said "Yes, just give us the exact date and ship, and we'll send you a zip file with lots of files, which you might not be able to fully extract on to your computer". Certainly not easy for the casual user to browse around in our historical archives.

However, the answer to that most philosophical question is..."Yes, just navigate to http://www.star-fleet.com/archive/".

I am hereby opening up the position of Assistant Internet Director (AIDir) for application.

Duties of the AIDir include:

- Responding to issues relating to the IDept's work both on the IDept ship and in the IDept project.
- Uploading files to the STF server
- Updating departmental pages
- IRC Administration
- Responding to queries on the IDept ship and in issue queue
- Assisting maintainers in the upkeep of their content
- Looking after department in the absence of the IDir

Yes. They are often the bane of every XO/CO/GM/FComm and all the other poor folks who have to fill them in.
Yes. They are probably the least exciting part of STF.
No. You can't just shove them under the carpet.
But! They're important and necessary - so why not make that experience a little easier!

Ladies and Gents,

Over the last 48 hours, many of you would have noticed that STF was offline. This was due to WeBBspace causing too much load on the server. In order to be fair to other customers that shared the server, Pair decided to take WeBBspace offline. Unfortunately for us, there was no prior warning - just an email that was sent out when their system blocked access to WeBBspace.

Earlier today, WeBBspace was disabled by STF's web host. Further investigation by Jack Dipper and Larry Garfield determined that our host felt we were drawing too many CPU resources, and so to keep us from overloading the server blocked access to the directory where the code is stored.

Ladies and Gents,

As most of you have no doubt noticed, the WeBB wasn't allowing replies to notes to be posted. This is due to a known bug and is currently being dealt with (see http://www.star-fleet.com/webb/node/144783 for details). We have put in place measures which will allow you to post once again. Whilst this does not fix the issue entirely, we now know the cause and are looking into it :-).
