Please go to previous note/parent note if you want to see what’s been snipped. :)

The following is where we are currently at with regards to the draft Mentor’s Policy. All I’ve changed here are the nested lists to include them inside their parent numbers.

  1. Per Lerner Bill #2, mentors generally must be members of the club for a minimum of three months. Exceptions must be approved by the Academy Commandant and will be determined under the following criteria: a) Posting Effort, this includes both the frequency and quality of the posts (General guidelines are located in the syllabus: https://www.star-fleet.com/acad/syllabus/). Generally mentors must be able to maintain a consistent presence on the ship they have agreed to mentor on. b) In the opinion of the CO of the ship they have requested to mentor on, they would be appropriate to be assigned as such. c) In the case of the Academy, the ship’s CO, XO and CNS have requested this individual be graduated from the Academy to Department Head and such a request is approved by the Academy Commandant upon review of the cadet’s graduation evaluation.
  2. The Academy shall ideally seek to identify mentors for each ship in the main fleet that accepts new members. It is noted that Department Heads on Academy ships are automatically mentors for cadets assigned to their department. When agreeing to act as mentor, the Academy and the mentor will identify which ship(s) the mentor has agreed to mentor on, as it is not required that a mentor stand as mentor for all ships to which they are members of. – I’m not super fond of the wording, so any suggestions to clean it up would be appreciated)
  3. Mentors must commit to contacting new members assigned to them within 72 hours of them being assigned. If they are on LOA and it is unmarked, the Academy reserves the right to re-assign that new member to another member who is not currently on LOA. The recommended welcome email is available on the resources page (to be created). Mentors must also copy the Academy when doing so.
  4. Mentors must also periodically check in with their mentored members, if only to touch base and make sure there are no issues to address. Some example emails are found in the resources section.

I’ve decided I don’t like 5.

B could be changed back to “AWOL” and C could be my suggestion of “Removal at the Academy Commandant’s discretion for reasons that could include, but aren’t limited to, breaching the above-noted guidelines.” We don’t have to go with that original suggestion I made. But as it is it’s like we’re trying to do my suggestion but not really doing it because it isn’t worded correctly. The “from the club” part of B doesn’t allow for the Commandant to remove the person for violating other policies that fall short of getting booted from the club.

Adam

So you’re suggesting that 5 becomes …

  1. Generally, there are three ways a mentor may leave the program: a) Requesting to be removed. b) AWOL. c) Removal at the Academy Commandant’s discretion for reasons that could include, but aren’t limited to, breaching the above-noted guidelines.

Is that correct, Adam?

Yes!

Adam

Kat was after a suggestion to clean up the wording in number (2) above. 2 Currently reads:
The Academy shall ideally seek to identify mentors for each ship in the main fleet that accepts new members. It is noted that Department Heads on Academy ships are automatically mentors for cadets assigned to their department. When agreeing to act as mentor, the Academy and the mentor will identify which ship(s) the mentor has agreed to mentor on, as it is not required that a mentor stand as mentor for all ships to which they are members of. – I’m not super fond of the wording, so any suggestions to clean it up would be appreciated)

But in general, are there any other suggestions for the Mentor Policy?
