Korczak tapped his badge as he sat in his office reviewing the record in front of him. =/\= Lt. Cmdr. Korczak to Lt. Gordon. Please come to my office when you have some time to spare, please. =/\= The glasses on his face slid slightly, and he pushed them up absentmindedly.

Korczak, CNS

=^=On my way Commander.=^= Came Gordon’s deep reply. He was sitting in his office, reviewing cadet files. He was glad to take a break from the review to do something else. Standing up, he made started limping towards the door to his office.

It took him a little longer because of his limp, but he made it to the office of the Counselor. Stopping in front of the door, he pressed the chime and waited.

-Gordon, CE

“Come in.” came an oddly accented voice from the other side of the door and they slid open. The office looked to be the same layout from the last Counselor, but the odds and ends had changed… as had the occupant. In almost stark contrast to the former Counselor, this man was of average build with very nondescript features. The only thing that seemed memorable, actually, were the wire framed glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, framing his brown eyes. Eyes that looked up from their current occupation of looking at the desk top when the Chief Engineer entered. “Ah, Lieutenant. Thank you so much for coming on short notice. I trust I am not interrupting anything truly pressing.” the man asked as he stood. His accent was difficult to place; as if there were several accents vying for control. But his speech was crisp and clean, and the smile on his face as he extended his hand was warm and inviting.

Korczak, CNS

Gordon limped in to the office and shook the man’s hand. “Nice to meet you. No, just working on cadet evaluations, nothing exciting.” He replied kindly, “If I may say, you have the look of one who could easily disappear into a bar scene or a crowd. I’m surprised intelligence didn’t grab you.” he observed, looking at the man.

-Gordon, CE

Korczak smiled and said “And whatever would make you think they didn’t, Lieutenant?” and he chuckled. “But no, I joke. Although I have done some work in the past with Federation Security.” and he sat down and motioned for the CE to have a seat as well. “Please, make yourself comfortable. If you would care for something to drink, the replicator is at your disposal.”

Korczak, CNS

“Thank you,” he replied, “What can I do for you?” He asked curiously.

-Gordon, CE

Korczak replied “Well, as you are aware the previous Counselor was called away. I was selected to replace him. I am aware he conducted the required evaluations, but I simply wanted to have a sit-down with the Department Heads and Command Staff and meet everyone for myself and see if there is anything pressing you may need my assistance on?” The man’s demeanor was one of openness and honesty, and he looked directly at Gordon as he spoke.

Korczak, CNS

Gordon nodded. “I’m not sure, maybe a sit down with my cadets might be of some use. Some of them are nearing graduation and could use some outside advice on what to expect in the fleet.” Gordon suggested thoughtfully, leaning back in his chair.

-Gordon, CE

Korczak replied “Of course. If you wish, I can send you a calendar of my existing appointments. You can send your Cadets in as you like so as not to interfere with their department training. I am quite certain that their training in that arena should take priority; and I would hate to interfere. After that, is there anything you can think of that I could assist you with? Either professionally or personally? The previous Counselor gave you a clean bill of mental health, but if something has arisen in the intervening time, I am happy to discuss it with you.”

Korczak, CNS

Gordon shrugged his shoulders, as he did so he winced slightly in pain as the scars from his injuries still hurt him from time to time. “I don’t think so, just see to my cadets, Cadet Griffith I think is the most senior. He could use some advice on what career moves.” he suggested, thinking on his cadets.

-Gordon, CE

Korczak noticed the pained expression. “Your wounds still trouble you, Lieutenant?” he asked and then added “I noticed that you winced a bit, is all.”

Korczak, CNS

“Some scars, especially deep, ones still ache when it’s cold.” He replied simply. “As you have noticed, I still limp around and my face is now a nice work of art.” He shrugged. “Makes me look more rugged, nice trait for the ladies.” He smiled jovially.

-Gordon, CE

“Why not have it ‘fixed up’, as they say? I’m sure walking around in pain is not the most… comfortable… mode of locomotion?” Korczak asked as he stood up and walked to the replicator. “Drink?” he added as he retrieved himself a black currant tea with lemon.

Korczak, CNS

“Nahh,” Gordon shook his head and shrugged. “I don’t mind the pain, most of the time. Besides, there are rumors that women like men who have been through the ringer, so the speak. Although,” He chuckled. “I haven’t had much luck so far, but then again, I haven’t really tried either.”

He watch the CNS walk over the replicator.

“Sure, how about a whiskey.” he asked.

-Gordon, CE

Korczak nodded and said “As long as you aren’t on duty.” with a chuckle. He retrieved a tea and a whiskey, brought them over and sat them on the small table. “So why exist in pain if you don’t have to, Mr. Gordon? I mean, there are entire books written of the subject of self-flagellation and the desire to punish one’s self for past transgressions. But as this is not an official visit, I will just say that it seems a bit unnecessary. And the people that I have met that like men who have ‘been through the ringer’, as you say, typically have a vast cavern of issues of their own.” and he gave the Chief Engineer a small smile and friendly wink as he took a sip of his tea. His tone was one of friendly banter, and his odd accent gave a strange cadence to his words at times. But he didn’t seem to be prying… at least too much.

Korczak, CNS

Gordon smiled “That’s the good thing about being a department head, generally speaking, I can choose my own hours.” He shrugged, “I’ve been working for the last 9 hours anyway. Cadet evaluations and final tests take up a lot of my time now. As for the pain.” He took a sip of his whiskey. “You are right in that regard, but while the pain doesn’t bother me to much, I find it to be my way of being unique. I know with medical technology, I can have these scars removed, this limp fixed and the pain gone, but not only are they all reminders of where I’ve been, they make for great stories at the bar. Especially when I can prove some of them.” He said with a laugh.
