“My first posting!” Rhese Bowman thought to himself as he stepped foot onto the turbolift. Excitement was hardly the most appropriate word that could describe the flood of emotion racing through his mind; was it nervousness? Surely that was part of it too, he thought, as he fidgeted a bit. He looked down at his tunic and noticed it wasn’t quite perfect, and quickly made an adjustment so as to present himself as perfectly as possible to his superiors. Just then, the lift slowed to a halt and the doors hissed open, and Bowman stepped out with a quick pace, a sense of purpose driving each step he took, as he counted them in his mind – committing the route to memory. “Before long,” he thought to himself as he continued counting his steps, “I’m going to know this ship like the back of my –” and before he could finish the thought, he noticed he had arrived at the door to the Chief Science Officer’s office. “Huh! Only 32 steps from the turbolift!” he said aloud, before he noticed that he’d attracted a wondering look from a crewman who had happened to be walking by at that moment. Bowman nodded nervously towards the crewman, as a sheepish grin appeared on his face, and he reached out and pressed the chime to the CSO’s office.

OOC: Always make sure to sign off on your posts. It helps when there are multiple responses to keep track of who is speaking / acting at the moment. Just a heads up!

James

OOC: Just to follow on what James mentioned, it takes a little bit of practice to remember. I always end up proof reading my post just before hitting submit and have noticed I would have accidentally left mine off if I didn’t read through it! Excellent post though! Also going to change the title to reflect your check in :)

IC: Looking through a PaDD of the most recent star charts and anomalies the ship has encountered over it’s recent years in service the Vulcan was studying and learning more about what the ship has done prior to his arrival to the Challenger. He paused and looked up towards the door and said with a commanding, yet reserved voice. “You may enter.” The office was rather barren at the moment with the lights only slightly lowered. There was a small bookcase behind the desk with a few books concerning thermodynamics, quantum physics, one concerning different types of radiation, and a few religious texts, clearly of Vulcan origin. Aside from a few items and PaDD’s on the desk there wasn’t much of anything to note in the room, though it was really clean.

Lt. T’Kam (CSO)

OOC: Yes, i realized i’d forgotten the sign-off the instant i clicked Submit! XD

IC: As the doors to the CSO’s office slid open, Bowman looked up – he had been fidgeting with his tunic again. He walked into the office and noticed the Vulcan – he seemed young, but then again Bowman had never been able to tell how old many Vulcans truly were when he’d observed them at the Academy, they had such long lifespans compared to humans! There was also a serenity about the man, Rhese thought to himself. Not wishing to portray any sense of being overly curious (at least at this moment), Bowman cleared his throat and spoke: “Cadet Rhese Bowman, reporting in, sir.”

OOC: That still happens to me from time to time haha what I do sometimes is just quickly reply to my own post that I just created with my signature.

IC: While looking over the cadet in front of him it was fairly apparent that he he was nervous, which was understandable giving the circumstances of him being a cadet. Upon noticing the tunic, he made a mention more as something he noticed as opposed to anything that might sound negative. “I believe your shirt is slightly untucked Cadet, please be sure to remedy that once you get a moment.” He stood up from his desk and extended his arm to one of the chairs, “Please, have a seat.” He walked over to the wall off to his right where the replicator was. “You might be more familiar with the replicator menu than I currently am, but would you like a beverage before we get started?” He turned towards the cadet, patiently waiting for his response. One could tell that great care was taken into his uniform as not a single wrinkle could be found. The deep blue of Science was almost as vibrant as it could be for some reason, as was the deep black on his shoulders and the rest of his uniform.

Lt. T’Kam (CSO)

OOC: Here I am talking about mistakes and I made one myself lol, left out a word, but that’s just me being a perfectionist x_x

-Mike

OOC: Perfectionists make good science officers, methinks! ^_^

IC: Bowman’s face flushed a bit as he looked downward to see that indeed, he had fidgeted with his tunic so much that a portion had come untucked! “Great way to make a first impression!” he thought to himself as he sat down in the exact chair that the Lieutenant had indicated. “I’ve got to just put this nervousness behind me somehow,” he continued thinking to himself, as he thought quickly about the CSO’s question. “Ah, no sir, thank you.” “The last thing I need now is to spill a drink all over his office!” Bowman thought to himself. Surely he should have no real reason to feel nervous, he thought – he had earned this opportunity! But he also knew himself well enough to know that the nervousness was fed by the excitement he felt welling up within him; this was something he’d longed for since he was a young boy! And to finally, after all the studying and hard work, to be here on a ship – and a Discovery class vessel, at that! Bowman felt it was the opportunity of a lifetime. He managed a genuine smile as he looked back to the right and up to T’Kam’s face, seeming to study the Vulcan for some sign of his impression of the raw cadet.

Cadet Rhesse Bowman (Scientist)

OOC: HA! i did it too. i have an extra “to” in one of my sentences, and i mentioned “to the right” instead of to the left, which would have probably been T’Kam’s right. Too bad there’s no edit function!

T’Kam’s face remained rather cold and emotionless, which wasn’t much of a surprise coming from a Vulcan. “Are you sure Cadet? I have heard that Tarkalean tea is supposed to have a relaxing effect on individuals. Though I hope you do not mind, but I will be having a beverage as well.” He turned towards the replicator before continuing, “Computer, one spiced Vulcan tea. Hot, sixty-eight point seven degrees Celcius.” As the replicator whirled to life creating the hot tea, he looked back to see if the cadet changed his mind at all and picked up the hot tea cup by it’s handle.

Lt. T’Kam (CSO)

Bowman thought for a moment. It occurred to him that while the Lieutenant’s face showed no signs of emotion or judgement, he had certainly already pegged the cadet accurately, given the suggestion. “Actually, a Tarkalean tea does sound nice. Warm though, please – 43.9 degrees Celsius,” he said. Rhese appreciated that at least the CSO was accommodating, and became disarmed somewhat in that T’Kam seemed to understand his nervous excitement at being posted to his first ship – even if Vulcans couldn’t relate to the feeling. Bowman was further assuaged, he found, as he noted that the Vulcan also seemed to have made it a point to be specific with his own drink order with regard to the temperature – he felt as though he was around something of a kindred spirit. While thus far Vulcans had remained something of an enigma to Bowman, he felt that at least he could relate to this Vulcan; and this realization began to set his mind at ease.
