“Oh, this was before I joined the academy program,” Simon answered. “My parents were a little apprehensive at first when I told them I would be enrolling, but I assured them that I would keep in contact as much as possible, and have been doing so. In fact, the very reason I joined the Security division was so that I could maybe stop this happening to others, and well, I would not be entirely truthful if I didn’t say that I hope a mission I take on would give me more leads on what happened to my brother. Don’t mistake that as getting my hopes up, but answers are just as much a form of closure than finding him alive at this point.” he added. “Especially with all the missing information that surrounds what happened. After all, my duty is to the Federation first, and I always keep that in the front of my mind when performing my duties,” he added, making it clear that it wasn’t something that would consume him, and distract him from his assignments.

“You can never know what situation you might be pulled into or its price. I’ve seen more experienced officers make terrible decisions because of the risk of never finding closure. I hope you will find closure, even if you never find answers,” Nijix stated as she tried to overcome the bitterness she was forced to deliver.

“Closure is probably more important than anything else,” Starr replied. He didn’t like going into such detail on this topic and was starting to want to get onto another topic, but trying not to portray this feeling to his superior.

She decided to move on from the depressing topic.

“Moving on, is there any notable skills you feel you excel at? I could read you file, but I find these can be insufficient. They don’t give smaller details but rather wide strokes.”

Relieved at the change in topic, Starr replied “Well, as I went through the academy I specialized in criminal law and investigation, so that’s where I excel the most, in the discovery and interpretation of evidence, so that would be my best subject area,” he was proud of his work that he was able to do in criminal law, and definitely something he excelled in. He always found it helpful to know the law if he was going to be enforcing it, so he found his studying of Federation law always coming in useful.

“I also did well at starship tactics, though I know that is usually handled by the tactical department more so than security,” he didn’t expect to end up on the bridge crew any time soon being responsible for the ship’s weapons, but he was always able to step in if the need arose. “And, well, when push comes to shove, I’m not a bad shot” he concluded with a slight smile.

Nijix noticed the change in his posture, his tone shifted slightly and eagerness to latch onto the new subject. It seemed her instinct was right to change the subject. She listened to him list the areas he focused on while she typed notes, mentally determining the best role for him onboard the ship and adding to her personal logs.

“ It’s always best to have experience beyond your field in the event of an emergency,” Nijix praised, as she stopped typing.

Her fingers folded up in front of her while she considered something.

“Do you have any duties you prefer to avoid or have lacking experience in?”
