Galven nodded then stepped away, attending to his own assignments. The group was alone for the moment.

Cadet Chesyre exhaled in relief, her nerves relaxing once more. She was a soft-spoken and timid woman. The presence of Galven, while not negative, made her anxiety shot up and fear of mistakes increased. Now that he was gone, she was much calmer. Her lips smiled as she nodded in agreement with Starr. She looked at her own tricorder then glanced toward the farthest corner from Starr’s workstation.

“I think it sounds good. I’ll start over there,” she gestured with a finger into the direction.

-Lt Galven and Cadet Chesyre.

Starr noted Chesyre’s exhale and smiled. “The lieutenant isn’t that bad. And well, neither is the chief really. You don’t need to worry about them unless your breaking rules” he chuckled.

Starr headed over to where he indicated with tricorder and PaDD in hand, and begun scanning the cargo crates, matching them with what was on the manifest he had been provided.

Catt wandered into the cargo bay a scanner in one hand and her padd in another. She was looking back and forth between the two devices as she dictated to her padd.
“Weight capacity is well within tolerance levels of the equipment while dry. The issue is more in the redistribution of existing cargo as the fluidic nature of the weight once in operation will require that it be placed centrally within the bay. Items at risk of being damaged or destroyed by moisture, either spillage or from evaporation and saturation within the environment of the bay. While precautions will be in place to prevent accidental contamination of the units it is likely best to remove potential problems rather than assume smooth operations. Humans refer to Murphy’s law as a factor in such circumstances. Not sure who Murphy was. But it is illogical to assume that random factors will not occur beyond our control. As yet I am unaware of whom I need to speak to in engineering so will likely need to approach the Chief engineer. I am also unaware of whom Has been assigned to be logistics officer to get equipment cargo and sundries moved into the bay and installed safely.”,

Catt looked up from scanner and padd and was surprised at the number of crewmen in the cargo bay. She flicked an ear and mrr’d. Calling over to the nearest crewman.

“Excuse me. What is going on?” It was bad enough she was likely going to cause some junior officer a logistical nightmare. But she didn’t like that she might need to do so in front of a crowd. As a Cadet she was aware everything she did would be judged. As a Caitan doing anything that created a negative emotional response was anathema.
It looked like she might be about to create a great deal of unhappiness. So her tail started to twitch in a agitated manner.

Starr recognised the caitain cadet from the day before in Ten Forward and approached. “Nothing serious, Cadet Bennet. We’re just doing routine cargo bay checks. I was there when the executive officer gave you the permission to use the cargo bay for your project,” Starr smiled a reassuring smile to make sure that she knew that he wasn’t surprised by her visit. He then scanned the next crate before moving to the next.

“Of course, if you’ve run the project through the CSO, then hopefully my chief will know about it - but it would be good to check that she has heard about the project. She might have some questions about it, but don’t let that worry you - it’s our job to look after the safety of the crew, after all,” he chuckled. “How is the project going, anyway?” he felt asking for an update might help Catt relax a little.

Catt recognized the security officer as a he approached. Her tail settled a bit as he spoke. So that only the tip was
Twitching.
“I have as yet not approached any of the senior staff. I am just doing some preliminary work. It would become illogical to cause a fuss if the project wasn’t able to go forward. Or if it proves impossible to dedicate space in a cargo bay. Some cargos may be moisture sensitive. Other can not be stored near certain other cargos. It creates a logistics puzzle that must be resolved. But time is lacking. If rumors are to be believed the Senior staff discussed our departure from the station last night. So time is not something we have in abundance. So.”, she sighed in a soft purr of a whisper.
“I am in a uncomfortable position Mr. Starr. I do not like, desire or function well as a leader. I do not like attention.
I regret bringing up my project. Starfleet is about learning to adapt and grow. I have been trying. But I am not comfortable. I find for every effort I make to do more. I …”, And she shook her head. And took hold of her tail.
“My apologies Mr. Starr. I should not be burdening you with any of my doubts. Caitan’s are social beings. We gather and discuss ourselves with a honesty that makes most other species uncomfortable. But I choose to serve on a ship with no others of my species. It is proving more difficult than I expected. I admire you for your ability to be self assured in and of yourself Mr. Starr. “,
Catt wasn’t sure just what manner of response to expect. The logical part of her was aghast. She probably should avoid such displays. She hadn’t really noticed that he had gone back to scanning as she spoke till just now either.
“So I was thinking we might need to rush the equipment on board before departure. So I’m looking for a place for it till I can get the paperwork done.”,

Simon continued listening and performing the scans. “Well, time is always fleeting, they do say” he answered “Starfleet is about discovery, and that will always come with change. Being a leader isn’t easy, it always comes with tough decisions, and if we are “comfortable” then growth can’t happen in us. Part of learning and part of becoming more of ourselves, that comes when we step out of that comfort zone and into the unknown. That itself is the first, and sometimes hardest, step to take” he responded to her worries. He smiled as he continued considering her words.

“And there’s no need to apologise, sometimes it’s good to say things to another person, it can help you process things more effectively if you hear yourself say it out loud and to someone else. Things are always difficult, whether your the only one of a species or far away from home. Everyone has something that makes life in the stars a challenge, how we use those feelings and what we do about them - that’s what’s important. And trust me, there are times I find it hard too - I’m not always so certain.” he added.

“Finally, I agree that storage will be needed. Regarding space for the project,” he began, going through the roster he had to see if there was anything in this cargo bay, and the necessary space needed. There was some room in this cargo bay, but he wasn’t sure if it would suffice for what Catt needed. “Computer, which cargo bay currently has the largest amount of space available?” he asked.
