Having been unable to sneak on board the ship without an unfortunately attentive Security cadet noticing who was boarding late at night, Felix had made the choice early the next morning to visit the ships medical facility and get his boarding physical out of the way quickly.

Despite his 50+ years Felix was fit and healthy, wiry, athletic and with only a touch of grey to his hair although, it did seem to be getting grayer faster than he would have liked. He stepped through the doors to the Sickbay on Deck Six with a quiet assurance, it was his ship after all, and paused inside the door as a number of crew came within his view. He didn’t speak or wave, no, Felix just waited for either the Chief Medical Officer or one of the other doctors to finish their tasks before he would interrupt them.

Captain Rhodes
CO

Max was refilling hyposprays on the far end of the sickbay when he noticed the CO enter sickbay. He noted that his heart rate had quickened and a line of sweat had suddenly formed at his hairline. He looked around, hoping to see the CMO. But they were not in sight, possibly still in their office. Max then looked around again, hoping to see a senior ranking doctor with time on their hands. Alas, he was the only one not engaged with a patient. Setting down the hypospray he took a deep breath. Looking down he adjusted his uniform tunic slightly and straightened the lapels of his lab coat. Squaring his posture he walked toward the CO.

Felix noted the movement of one of the Doctors towards him, his eyes settled on the man although his expression did not change.

“Good morning, sir. I am Cadet Woolley. How may I help you, sir?” Max asked. His tone was confident. Well, as confident as one could expect from a cadet encountering his first CO for the first time.

Cadet Max Woolley, Medical

Now, Felix broke into a slight smile. Just slight. “Good morning, Doctor,” he answered in his noticeable English accent, notably not calling the man a Cadet but referring to him by his profession. He had after all worked hard to be here and be a doctor, so he deserved recognition for that whether he was a Cadet or not. “Standard medical evaluation I am afraid, apparently I have to be of sound mind and body to take command of a Star Ship. One of those minor details, you know?” Felix kept a straight face the entire time, aside from that slight smile in greeting him. His eyes however, couldn’t hide the humor.

Captain Rhodes, CO

Max nodded a bit. His tensions easing as the CO neither berated him nor did anything to warrant the irrational, and involuntary, initial emotional response. As his shoulders relaxed enough to visibly lose tension, though not enough to break posture, he spoke again with an ease that almost resembled a sigh.

“Of course, sir. I would be happy to assist you with your medical evaluation,” Max said, gesturing toward the vacant biobed. “Right this way, sir.”

And just like that Max was able to switch back to newly minted physician and away from nervous cadet. It was, perhaps, not surprising, given the differences in training between Starfleet Academy and the Starfleet Medical Academy. While customs and courtesies were of course observed, Max was a medical student among other medical students and the physicians training him. Out here, even in the cocoon of a training ship, Max was turned loose among a more diverse group. It would clearly still take some getting used to.

Cadet Max Woolley (Medical)

Felix smiled and followed the cadet to the nearby Biobed, quietly certain it was just a routine scan and run. His previous check before he had shipped out to the Challenger had been all well within normal levels and he felt no different now.

Reaching it he simply turned and sat himself on the bed without waiting to be told, life in Starfleet was full of endless medical checks and such it seemed. “Ever diagnosed anything exciting?” He asked the man, both out of curiosity and simple conversation.

Captain Rhodes, CO

OOC: Felix’s Medical scan will show he is indeed perfectly healthy, although his caffeine levels are rather on the high side… happy to move it along here so you can graduate if you wish :)
