Rian made his way down the corridor toward Sickbay. He pondered quietly to himself how he would fit in with the medical team on board the Challenger. How would the CMO run the department? Perhaps, more importantly, what sorts of missions would they face on this cadet cruise and how would the medical team be involved? Would they face a disease outbreak on a distant colony where doctors would lead the mission? Or would there be some sort of security operation in which the other departments would depend on the medical team to keep them healthy and unbroken on their mission. Either way, Rian hoped that he would be able to contribute to the satisfaction of his new department head. He stopped and glanced at himself in a shiny panel along the bulkhead. His dark hair was well maintained, his medical cadet uniform was smooth and with everything in the right spot, his dark green eyes sparkled with the emotions he was feeling. Satisfied that he would not make a fool of himself on first look, he entered Sickbay and made his way over to the CMO’s office, cleared his throat politely, and waited to be received by his senior officer.

Obiah, who preferred the company of fellow doctors as opposed to the whitewash walls of their enclosed office, was situated behind a standard desk, their head bent over a PaDD. It was a rarity that Obiah could be found in their office, as they were not to big a fan of the paperwork that came with being the CMO. They were far more a person of action than one of inaction, their days -they much preferred- spent on the floor, rather than cooped up behind closed doors. Relief came at the sound of that chime, a saviour dressed in the skins of a person they could not predict. Perhaps it was their new cadet– Skene, was his name. Yes, that was it. Or perhaps it was the Captain or Commander, with some new about an outbreak on a nearby colony. Who knew. “Come in!” They called.

Rian stepped inside the office at the CMO’s invitation and came to attention to present himself.

“Cadet Rian Skene reporting for duty,” he announced with a great bit of formality.

The cadet’s mind was spinning. Was this really how things worked on an actual starship? Was he being too formal? Perhaps not formal enough? How should he refer to his senior officer? Was their title too informal? Should he use their rank or sir? Catching himself spinning a bit out of control, he focused his attention back to the officer standing in front of him and waited, hoping that his nerves would not show through.
