Felix came to his feet, slowly and unhurredly while he adjusted first his tunic, then his cuffs and looked at the two Cadets. “Starfleet Academy has a long tradition of creating fine Officers that have done great things in service to the Federation. Entry through the doors alone is tough, and most who apply, never step foot inside.” He turned and picked up two small boxes that had been just behind him as he leaned on the desk. “So, I regret that as the Challengers new Captain, I have had far too little time to get to know either of you however, I do have the agreeable task of finalizing your Graduation to Starfleet.” Now Felix cracked a smile as he stepped forward to the first of the pair to enter his Ready Room.

“Cadet Woolley, I have heard nothing but praise from Lieutenant Torrirs about her star Cadet,” he told the man, then opened one of the boxes and took out something small, then paused a moment before holding up the small thing in his fingers. It was a small solid rank pip. “So it is my pleasure to approve your Graduation. You are promoted to the rank of Ensign, and you have been assigned to Starbase Magellan in the Infinite Fleet, Captained by Briony of Krios. I hear they need a few more Doctors that actually have some skill out there.” Felix held out the small box for Woolley to take, along with his other hand to shake in congratulations.

Looking over to Obiah Felix nodded and smiled, then turned to the next Cadet. “Cadet Starr, according to my Chief of Security there are few Officers in your line of work that are as diligent and ready for the next step to the Fleet than you are. Congratulations on your Graduation, you are promoted to the rank of Ensign and your assignment is to the U.S.S. Ark Angel in the Foremost Fleet, under Captain Andone. She’s a good ship, and she needs good Officers.” He opened the second box to reveal the another rank pip, this time for the Security Officer and held it out to him along with his hand like he had to Ensign Woolley.

“Congratulations Gentlemen, I wish you the best on your many adventures to come. Feel free to speak to your Department Heads before you head out to pack your bags.” Felix glanced now at his two Department Heads in the room and stepped back, inviting them to speak and advance.

Captain Rhodes, CO

OOC: Congratulations people, you are now free to have your characters moved to the Main Fleet, if you would like to finish off any threads you are currently in before you move, that’s perfectly ok. Just drop me an email when you are ready to move and I can get that sorted for you, your new Captains are waiting with anticipation!

-Dave

Starr stood at attention as the box was opened and remained professional. “Thank you, sir. It’s been an honor and a privilege being able to get this experience on the Challenger, sir,” he answered. “I also look forward to what I will continue to learn,” Starr then turned to Nijix. “Again, though my time under you has been short, also, chief. I thank you for the inspiration and guidance you have given me in my short time under your guidance,” with that he nodded. Simon remembered that the first conversation he had with a fellow cadet was also with Max and nodded “Congratulations, ensign, hope you do well in your posting as well,” he adressed him, before standing back at attention, waiting to be dismissed. He knew he would probably need to pack when this was done, and be ready for when the shuttle was going to arrive to transport him to his new posting.

Ensign Simon Starr, Security

OOC: Thanks for the update, not sure if there’s much more going on in the cargo bay unless Nijix has any plans for that - but that can be pretty much left as is, so don’t think I have any active posts. Thanks for the tutoring and mentoring through the academy, and well, I do lurk in the discord sometimes so if anyone else is there feel free to drop a message in there :)

As the Captain spoke it became clear that this was not, in fact, an occasion for his usual murmuring anxiety. Max was surprised. He came to attention slowly as the Captain approached, far less polished than the snappy movements Simon demonstrated beside him. It was a combination of things, perhaps, having just ended a shift in sickbay and being quite surprised as time had escaped him. Of course, Max was in a unique position as well. His academy experience was medical school. His “big test” being surgical rather than tactical.

Max found his hand taking the box containing the single pip involuntarily. The other shaking the Captain’s outstretched hand firmly. His body responded according to training, his reflexes as an officer and a physician now beginning to overcome what residual doubt might be lingering in his mind. He glanced at the pip, the simple piece of metal that separated him, as a cadet, from the officers who trained him. No more. After years of working toward a goal; to become a Starfleet physician, Max had made it. The next part of the journey was going to be far less concrete in its goals and objectives but the reality of the world ahead of him was thrilling. He found a smile begin to curl at his lips as he shook the Captain’s hand.

“Thank you, Captain. I look forward to my next assignment. My time aboard the Challenger has been highly educational,” he said in a confident tone, the initial shock having worn a bit as the immensity, and joy, of the situation set in. He turned as Simon addressed him, smiling as he nodded to him. “Congratulations, Ensign. It was an honor and a privilege to serve with you.”

He then turned to the CMO. “Thank you, Doctor. I hope our paths cross again. Though, either way, I will carry everything you taught me throughout my career.”

Max’s head was swimming. Though at seeing Simon snap back to attention he figured he should follow suit. His hand clutched the little box at his side while awaiting dismissal. There was packing to be done. There was likely a shuttle to catch. Though Max noted that his first order of business upon returning to his quarters was to remove his cadet insignia from his collar and replace it with his brand new pip.

Ensign Max Woolley, Medical

OOC: Thanks for the update and for the great experience all around, everybody. I thoroughly enjoyed my time aboard the Challenger. I think Max is clear. I avoided jumping into anything new when I saw this thread come up. Looking forward to seeing you, and some of your other characters, around the fleet!

“Sometimes, the shortest time can tell you the most about an individual,” Nijix allowed that wisdom to linger.

After a moment, she bent down to a bag she left by her side. Her hands ruffled through the small collection until she pulled out a charcoal picture of Starr, the detail showed her thoughtfulness and care in each stroke. There was little doubt to anyone, Nijix had placed all her heart in this piece. It was framed into a pale gold and simple designed case to protect it from outside harm.

“I do have a farewell gift for you. Something I think you will appreciate and I did in my free time. Congratulations, you earn this and I hope you never forget your lessons learned here. They will serve you well in the future.”

With that statement, she gently passed the twelve-inch by nine-inch picture to the man.

Her attention then turned to the CMO with a small chuckle and mischievous smile, “I do believe I need to help the Chief Medical Officer with developing a better poker face after this. That look was a dead give away.”

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

OOC: Congrats to you both. To answer Ben’s question, the cargo bay is flexible and intended as a way to keep posting up. Either of us can easily exit your character out of it using an NPC so you can get to your new assignment without strings attached. If you want, I can easily write your character out and you can move to your new ship sooner. With your permission of course.

-Janice B.

“Thank you ma’am” Starr replied to her comment. As she pulled out the picture however, Starr was unable to keep his poker face any more and had a similar look of surprise that Max had when he was first told that this was their graduation. It lasted but for a brief moment, but with Nijix’s training, there was no doubt in Simon’s mind that she would have noticed the brief lapse in form. He gingerly took the picture and made a note that this was going to be something he could use to remember everything he had learned while he was on the ship. It was a masterpiece, and though Simon was tempted to ask about where she got the time to do the picture, he put the thought behind him. Another reminder to him of the very first conversation he had with another cadet off duty on the ship when he met Wooley in the mess hall making a beautiful painting of the stars. Starr never thought of himself as an artist, that wasn’t really one of his talents - but he could always appreciate a good picture.

He nodded in thanks to the Chief as she handed the picture over and he made sure that it was held carefully. This was a day to celebrate, but also the first day of a long career. He hadn’t been trying for it as long as his fellow cadet who was graduating, as his track was much shorter, but the hard work definetely payed off as he returned to standing at attention as the final words were exchanged, and knew he would be heading straight to his quarters once he was dismissed.

Ensign Simon Starr, Security

OOC: I’ll do it now, but if you feel it needs more after then be my guest :)

-Ben
