Catt recognized the security officer as a he approached. Her tail settled a bit as he spoke. So that only the tip was
Twitching.
“I have as yet not approached any of the senior staff. I am just doing some preliminary work. It would become illogical to cause a fuss if the project wasn’t able to go forward. Or if it proves impossible to dedicate space in a cargo bay. Some cargos may be moisture sensitive. Other can not be stored near certain other cargos. It creates a logistics puzzle that must be resolved. But time is lacking. If rumors are to be believed the Senior staff discussed our departure from the station last night. So time is not something we have in abundance. So.”, she sighed in a soft purr of a whisper.
“I am in a uncomfortable position Mr. Starr. I do not like, desire or function well as a leader. I do not like attention.
I regret bringing up my project. Starfleet is about learning to adapt and grow. I have been trying. But I am not comfortable. I find for every effort I make to do more. I …”, And she shook her head. And took hold of her tail.
“My apologies Mr. Starr. I should not be burdening you with any of my doubts. Caitan’s are social beings. We gather and discuss ourselves with a honesty that makes most other species uncomfortable. But I choose to serve on a ship with no others of my species. It is proving more difficult than I expected. I admire you for your ability to be self assured in and of yourself Mr. Starr. “,
Catt wasn’t sure just what manner of response to expect. The logical part of her was aghast. She probably should avoid such displays. She hadn’t really noticed that he had gone back to scanning as she spoke till just now either.
“So I was thinking we might need to rush the equipment on board before departure. So I’m looking for a place for it till I can get the paperwork done.”,

Simon continued listening and performing the scans. “Well, time is always fleeting, they do say” he answered “Starfleet is about discovery, and that will always come with change. Being a leader isn’t easy, it always comes with tough decisions, and if we are “comfortable” then growth can’t happen in us. Part of learning and part of becoming more of ourselves, that comes when we step out of that comfort zone and into the unknown. That itself is the first, and sometimes hardest, step to take” he responded to her worries. He smiled as he continued considering her words.

“And there’s no need to apologise, sometimes it’s good to say things to another person, it can help you process things more effectively if you hear yourself say it out loud and to someone else. Things are always difficult, whether your the only one of a species or far away from home. Everyone has something that makes life in the stars a challenge, how we use those feelings and what we do about them - that’s what’s important. And trust me, there are times I find it hard too - I’m not always so certain.” he added.

“Finally, I agree that storage will be needed. Regarding space for the project,” he began, going through the roster he had to see if there was anything in this cargo bay, and the necessary space needed. There was some room in this cargo bay, but he wasn’t sure if it would suffice for what Catt needed. “Computer, which cargo bay currently has the largest amount of space available?” he asked.

Catt flicked a ear and looked at Starr as he spoke. “It…”, and she stopped herself. “Any input you have would be welcome of course. “,

“It’s nothing,” Starr replied as he awaited the computer’s response. The voice came through the cargo bay “Cargo bay 4 is currently not in use,” the reply came. “Well, as long as it’s OK, I guess it might be a good idea to have a look there” Simon smiled as he responded. “If you need anything feel free let me know” he said, and continued scanning and checking the cargo in their current bay.

Catt sighed. She could of asked the computer. She felt like a first year Cadet. Most of what she needed to know would be available just by asking the computer. But and for her it was a big but. She needed social interactions.
She was not proceeding logically. Going to a location and doing redundant work was accomplishing nothing useful.
“Thank you Mr. Starr I will ask to have everything placed in bay four till a permanent placement is assigned. Happy scanning.”,
That final farewell didn’t. Feel right to her. Four years at the academy and she still felt like she was awkward when dealing with others. As she turned to g her tail lifted just enough to brush against Cadet Starr’s hand. It was almost involuntary. Caitans touched it was part of the body language. But Catt made a habit of never touching anyone. So the contat was a shock to her. Why? Her ears flushed and she walked towards the exit faster than her usual pace.

“Well, it’s one of the more peaceful jobs,” he said with a smile. As Catt left, he felt the slight touch on his hand as she left and noticed her quickened pace. He had seen other cadets be embarressed by situations before and just gave a quick glance to make sure she was OK, and continued his work, now reaching the end of the second row of scanned cargo, he began moving back in the opposite direction with cargo closer to the center. Nothing seemed out of place, yet, and so he continued.

As Starr was scanning the cargo, he had just finished his last batch when his Commbadge went off.

=/\= Captain Rhodes to Cadets Woolley and Starr, I would like to see you in my ready room if you please. =/\=

“The captain?” Starr said to himself, looking around to see if anyone else was in range. He folded up his tricorder and then headed out to report as ordered. He was shocked that he had done something to merit the attention, and wondered if he had done something wrong. Straightening out his uniform, he made his way to the turbolift and headed up to the Captain’s Ready Room as ordered

Cadet Simon Starr, Security

OOC: Cadet when this was set anyway :P just thought I’d use this as a close off for Starr, and will link it all up to the ready room post, just to close it off on my end.

Ben

OOC: Lol, sorry I was enjoying the show too much to interrupt. I’ll have the NPC close this off officially then.

IC: Cadet Chesyre had just wrapped up her work and started to move into Simon’s direction. She had been about to ask him something, namely if he needed help, before the Caitian Cadet’s reaction caught her off guard. The feline Cadet abruptly detached and darted off. The young woman’s expression looked confused for a moment. She considered approaching the man over the exchange when her ears caught the comm badge. It was the Captain causing her to flinch inwardly and hesitate, her eyes following him to the turbo lift.

She sighed then took up her scanner to finish whatever work was still left undone. There was a small expectation that others would be arriving to help, but she decided not to count on it.
