“Hello Cadet,” A smiling face peered over at the young cadet, whose anxiety radiated from him like heat from a nearby star. Setting down the PaDD they had been observing, their gaze meeting the smile curving against their jaw, Obiah turned completely to Richard. “A boarding physical? You must be new!” They assumed, gesturing to an unoccupied biobed, imploring Locke to take a seat. “How were your travels to the Challenger?” As they waited for Locke to take a seat, they retrieved a medical scanner, moseying over to the biobed. Luckily, Locke was human, which meant she didn’t have to check for proper calibration… unless the tricorder had been used previously on some mysterious lifeform, which she greatly doubted.

He gulped as he nervously pulled himself up on to the empty bio bed.

“Yes, ” he replied. ” I am new. I just got in this morning. The ride up to the ship wasn’t that bad, it seemed like it lasted forever. It might have been because I was too excited and impatient to start serving. ” Just then he saw the doctor walking over to him with a medical scanner and started hyperventilating.

“Time moves like molasses when you’re forced to wait for it,” Torrirs chuckled. “You’re really new, then. What do you think of our humble abode so far?”

“I’ve got to calm down, ” he thought to himself. He took a deep breath and then did his best to slow his breathing. He wasn’t going to let his fear get in the way of his Star Fleet career. He had to get over this, so he sat there breathing slowly and swinging his legs waiting for the examination.

“Whoa there, champ.” Torrirs set the tricorder down, placing a hand against his shoulder blade. “Are you all right?” They asked, the disruption in his breathing obvious to the keen eye of a trained professional. They didn’t want to put any stress on the kid, especially if it was going to compromise his health.
