(SNIP).
Cadet Osten was gleaning information from conversations across the bridge from his position lurking near the turbolifts when he overheard the computer mention to Cadet Bennet that deck three of the Potterfield still had life support. He perked up and allowed himself a second of hesitation before stepping forward to the science station that T’Kam and Bennet were working at. He positioned himself behind Bennet’s shoulder and waited for the computer to pause in its reporting before speaking.

“Apologies for the interruption Lieutenant T’Kam, I’m Wiles Osten, security cadet. If life support is still active on deck three, and if that’s where the crew is located, that will assist us in the case of evacuation, as Monolith-class cargo ships have both of their transporter rooms located on deck three. If we can restore power to the transporters on-site, we could evacuate the crew quickly without needing to traverse the ship.” Wiles paused. “Should it be necessary,” he clarified. Wiles spoke evenly, just loud enough to cut over the other noise of the bridge. He watched from over Catt’s shoulder as she conducted her scan for the crew of the Potterfield with anticipation.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

“That would be a solid assessment Cadet, however, from the scans it appears their reactor and power systems are currently offline which means they are most likely running on auxiliary power. It would not be enough to power their shields, we could just as easily utilize our transporters to just beam them directly to our vessel.” He looked back towards the console tapping his finger along the top edge of it, thinking. “It would be more likely the concern of medical personnel, but we do not have any situational awareness on what caused this distress signal, nor what kind of flora, fauna, or micro organisms they have aboard. We should proceed with caution when dealing with this.” He paused for a moment, again forgetting about pleasantries that usually accompanied interactions and turned back towards the Security Cadet, “It was good to meet you, Cadet … Osten, correct?”

Lt. T’Kam (CSO)

Listening to the reports come through, Felix nodded at the Cadets suggestion, it was a fair call. “Well, now that we have probed them a little, lets call and see if anybody is listening shall we?” He came to his feet and adjusted his tunic. “Open a channel,” he said to the Tactical station (Security).

=/\= Potterfield, this is Captain Rhodes of the U.S.S. Challenger. We are responding to your distress call, what is your status? =/\= He looked back to his XO then at the ship on the screen and waited for a response.

Captain Rhodes, CO

Having gotten the update that they had arrived at the Potterfield’s location, Max finally made it to the bridge. Moving around to the center of the bridge he brought up the Challenger’s status report on his own screen, while they waited to see if the Potterfield would respond.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

They had arrived at the location of the ship and the main bridge crew spring in to action scanning Lillian study the auxiliary security station she had moved to on the journey to there current location at the rear of the bridge near the Science stations Lillian listened to the conversations and the scanning information coming in and the captain hailed the crippled ship.
she hoped That there would be an away mission and that she could get assigned and get in to the action.

Cadet Lillian Anderson Security

Glancing back at Tactical to make sure the line was open, Felix waited for any response. Considering the life support systems being restricted to such a small area he doubted the Bridge was functional, but there would still be enough power to get a transmission out assuming nothing on board was blocking it. Answering could take some time he knew.

“Is there anything we can detect that might interfere with our transporters at all?” He asked his crew.

Captain Rhodes, CO

Gordon limped onto the bridge not long after the XO and assumed his position at the engineering station. He heard the question and checked the transporter systems for any interference.

-Gordon, CE

“Which way Captain? Sending a team to the Potterfield, or pulling any survivors off of the ship?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Catt flicked an ear, “power is down in everywhere but one area of deck 3. All reactors are offline and the warp core as well. Something must of caused a massive feedback in the power systems. They must be powering life support on batteries Captain. “,

“Computer scan the area around the Potterfield for any spacial anormalities, strange energy signatures.” She said thinking better safe than sorry.

“Computer. Does the potterfield show any signs of external damage. Any weapons signatures. Or Ion trails”, while she thought a cargo such as what the Potterfield carried would make a poor target for raiders, Anything was possible. She wasn’t going to rule out hostile action as a cause just because it was unlikely.

Cadet Catt Bennett. Sciences.

OOC: I am going to try to respond to as much as I can in this one post so if I forget something let me know.

IC: The Potterfield had been in service the better part of thirty years. Maintenance records showed that the ship was pretty well taken care of. It wasn’t a top priority of the fleet but it wasn’t a derelict garbage scow either.

Scans showed that there was five life signs on deck three that correlated to those of Star Fleet officers. Reports indicated that the Potterfield should have had a crew of 15 (She was under crewed given that class of ship usually had 20).

There was no visible external damage, no rouge waves, just a ship drifting in the darkness of space.

The hailing calls go unanswered. Whoever was there on that ship was hunkered down near the sickbay, but the main questions will remain unanswered.

GM Wombat

Felix looked to Harkness and indicated the freighter. “Until we know what’s going on over there, lets not bring them back here. Standard Protocol on this one Max. Put together an Away Team and transport over. There doesn’t appear to be any immediate danger, lets have the Cadets on this one yes? Give their four years of training a real life application. Find out what is going on an report back, we will stay on standby and keep watching the area.”

Captain Rhodes, CO

“Sounds like the perfect test Captain. We’ll keep in touch, I’m sure it’ll just be a quick in and out job.”

Standing up he motioned to Cadets Anderson and Bennet as he headed for the turbolift. “You’re with me Cadets. Grab your gear and meet me in the transporter room in 15 minutes.” Entering, he held the door open for them. “Oh and Cadet Anderson, make sure to grab a rifle just in case.”

=^= Harkness to Cadet’s Locke and Osten. Meet me in transporter room 1 in 15 minutes. And Locke, grab a portable power pack just in case. Otherwise standard kit. =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Lillian could no believe it when the captain advised the XO to Take Cadet on the away mission and the Cmd Harkness Named her to the mission and remedied here to stop by the armoury for a rifle.
“Yes Sir” Lillian stood from her station and made for the axualry Turbolift to get to the Armoury as fast as she could and get geared up for the mission.
The XO had a point there was no way of knowing what they where walking in to and it was a strange situation no real damage but also no power
Lillian arrived at the armoury a short time later and requisition the rifleman and a hand pistol for the mission and made for the Transporter room Better to be early than late she thought

T’Kam lightly tapped Cadet Bennett on the shoulder before she turned to go with the Commander. “Cadet, if you could grab some samples of the flora on that ship, it might be beneficial for us to examine them to see if they might have had any involvement on what happened on the ship. Proceed with caution, I will be monitoring activity from the Bridge in case you encounter anything.” He gave a small nod, knowing that she would hopefully enjoy being able to identify some of the species of plant life on the vessel.
