Max walked into the transporter room and headed for the control panel. He had grabbed himself a standard tricorder and a phaser. Nothing fancy, this was a quick hop in and out mission. “How’s it going Chief? Think you’ll be able to get us back in one piece?” he asked as he leaned up against the panel, while he waited for the cadets to arrive.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Cadet Osten had not been entirely surprised when Commander Harkness had commed him from the bridge despite the fact that the two men were standing less than fifteen feet apart. After all, Wiles had not been introduced to the executive officer yet and he had fallen back into his observational nature during the last few moments after his suggestion had been disregarded by Lieutenant T’Kam. The cadet attempted to discreetly cover his comm badge with one hand as it chirped, muffling the repeated words of Commander Harkness to hopefully avoid the awkwardness of the situation.

Wiles did not take the same turbolift as Commander Harkness and Cadets Bennet and Anderson, as to avoid alerting the executive officer to his presence. He patiently waited for the next one, knowing that he still had thirteen minutes to make the trip. As he stood in front of the turbolift doors, something did not sit right in Wiles’ stomach. The captain had said that there did not appear to be immediate danger. But Wiles had seen the life sign readings from over Cadet Bennet’s shoulder. Two thirds of the crew of the Potterfield were missing. And the commander’s assumption that this would be a “quick in and out job” did nothing to settle Wiles’ concerns. Cadet Osten was not an easily unsettled individual. But, he was certainly cautious. And in this situation, he felt confident in his tendency for cautiousness.

Wiles did appreciate Commander Harkness’ suggestion for Cadet Locke to bring along the portable power pack. Perhaps he had heard Cadet Osten’s suggestion about powering the transporters, even if he did not know the source. Wiles made a point to stop by the armory for a phaser rifle as well. Cadet Anderson was not the only security officer on this mission, after all.

With the rifle slung across his back, Cadet Osten stepped into the transporter room for his first real away mission. He puffed up his chest a little prouder. He had trained for this. And he was honored to protect his shipmates and the crew of the Potterfield. He was ready.

Cadet Osten approached the executive officer and looked up (and up) into the towering man’s face. He extended a hand for a firm handshake and offered a small tilt of his head. “Hello, Commander Harkness. I’m Cadet Osten, security officer. A pleasure to meet you. I’m prepared to assist the Potterfield to the best of my ability.” He spoke with an even, self-assured tone. Formal, but personable.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Lillian was nervous about the mission she had seen the scans of the potterfield and it didn’t look good the numbers did not add up. there where a lot of missing crew members on that ship maybe dead or Taken we were after all very close to several major powers and they where not above taking Prisoners for interrogation, if they felt it was warranted.

Lillian rushed in to the Transporter room and stop upon entering to see another security cadet and the XO waiting she just court the end of the other cadet introduction. she step up toward them is the small Transporter room and spoke
“Cadet Anderson Reporting as ordered Sir”
she stood to attention as she was trained to do she reporting to to a superior Officer. she felt the Type 3 phaser Rifle shift on her back as it was over here shoulder on her back it was a strange weight to have on it was not some thing she had had on her back before she had started out in the Academy as an engineer but found that even tho she had a head for the engineering she found it a bit clinical and boring so she move the the action department of security even tho she hated weapons she knew they where a part of the job.

OOC: Still some minor typoes and multiple words, but you’ve improved a lot, Julie! Also, I love how everyone’s really getting into their characters and their different personalities are coming out in the posts. ^-^
-Janice B.

OOC: Seems like a good time to introduce you Cadets to the use of what we call ‘NE’s‘ or ‘Nameless Ensigns’. These are characters you can write in a thread to help tell a story or play a part when your own character is elsewhere or would not be involved, but you want to take part in a thread or another writer is needed. These characters are, like your own, owned by the author and in most cases cannot be taken over by another writer (exceptions can apply, but for now we will keep it simple).

NE’s are mostly of the lowest rank possible (Ensign) and you can never have an NE that is of higher rank than your club rank (just like the restriction on actual characters not being higher rank than your club rank). In the Academy technically an NE is an NC (non-Cadet), but we generally use NE as you will use that when you move to the main fleet. Many of us have long-standing NE’s that have in fact become characters in their own right, and despite being called ‘Nameless’ we do give them a name. NE simply refers to them being an un-rostered and often disposable character.

For this thread, I’ll be playing an NE Medical Cadet, NE Richards. See below and note how we sign off as the NE, not our main character.

IC:
Shortly after Anderson arrived another Cadet came through. Not being originally on the Away Team it was standard protocol in this situation to have some Medical cover, so the short, wiry and compact human with dark hair and deep grey eyes shouldered his Medical kit and joined the team from Sickbay as the crew began to make preparations for any injured they might find.

Giving the most cursory nod to the gathered team, he simply walked to the transporter pad and took his place, checking his kit over one last time.

NE Richards, Medical

Nijix had been arguing with Raji over the mission. Theories and dark thoughts were flipped around in her head, but she hoped for an easy job. She quickly cut off her conversation when she entered the transporter room. Her figure briskly walked in to see her Cadets already geared up and ready for the mission, a fact that brought her a little pride.

She nodded to her Cadets to acknowledge their presence before she stood at attention near the pad. Her figure held her gear and she seemed ready for anything to go completely wrong.

Catt was the last to arrive at the transporter room as a mission of this sort required some changes to her standard gear. For one thing she had put on the uncomfortable boots that she avoided opting to go bare with pawed as most of her species prefered. With her foot pads covered the lack of feeling the deck made her gait ungainly. She was lifting her feet to high. But the shoes did have magnetic soles in case she ended up in a low gravity environment. Around her waist she had added a force belt as most of the Potterfield had no life support if she was going to recover samples she would need to traverse sections of bad air, low pressure and potentially vaccum. A tricorder, and type 1 phaser as well as a sample kit rounded out her gear. She noted she carried far more than the others on the away team but as the sciences representative this was not really out of the ordinary. She shied away from the Cadet weilding the phaser rifle as it made her uncomfortable.
“Cadet Bennet. Ready sir.”, she said as she waited for the XO’s command.

Cadet Catt Bennet. Sciences.

OOC: Small note, really just an observation for RP. The Type 2 Phaser is the standard Away Team issue, the Type 1 is normally reserved for undercover work or work where a Phaser is not a good look. Nothing says you cannot use one here of course (and you can), but it isn’t ‘normal’ as such and the Armory would likely have issued the standard Type 2 to the Cadets. Check out our clubs Security Exam to take a look at what we generally go with here and for a fun little note about the Type 1f that Catt is carrying here. The venerable transporter chief just looked at the XO and sighed, shaking his head as he did so. “I don’t know sir. I may trap the smart ones in the buffer for a few extra minutes just to give ‘em a little rush.”

“Well don’t scare them to much chief. Hopefully we’ll have some guests on our way back.”

The chief walked over to the console and tapped a few buttons before explaining to the gathered team what he was doing, “Alright, listen up for those of you who are interested in what an old engineer has to say.” He chuckled softly to himself before saying, “Normally we do platform to platform transports with other ships, but since we can’t do that seeing as their transporters are down, I am going to have transport you to the specific spot the XO tells me.”

After a pause he looks at the cadets, “You all have done this before yeah? Some people claim they feel woozie afterwards. If you do… Medic there can make you less woozie.”

GM Wombat

“And if you feel woozie, go see the Medic. No toughing it out. Last thing we need is someone getting sick while we are in the middle of a rescue. Sound good?”

Max looked around at the assembled cadets. “Good. Chief can you beam us in outside of the room with the lifesigns on deck 3? I don’t want to get to close until we know exactly what is going on over there.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Catt flicked an ear at the ancient engineer as he made the comment about trapping the smzrt ones, In her blue science tunicShe would likely be one of the so called smart ones. Smart enough to realise that this was a time honored ritual with humans. Hazing was what it was called. She had been the butt of a great many such pranks at the academy. It was best to ignore such things and not let it annoy her. But she blushed a bit and flattened her ears as she remembered having a colorfast pink dye added to her soap. She had spent her entire second year growing out of that pink fur. Her tail tip twitched. In her third year she had cultivated a friendship with a bonded Andorian family group. The pranks had ceased abruptly after that. She wondered how the Andorians were doing. She would write them after the away mission. The mention of wooziness was enough to bring her attention back to the transporter room. She had never been one who used transporters often. She had never suffered any disorientation on the few times she had transported. If anything she had a emotional high after transporting. Unlike most beings that type of false mood alteration tended to annoy her. She gave her gear a last once over for no other reason than to do something other than stare at the walls as she waited. Then she turned to the XO.
“Commander. LT T’Kam asked me to recover some samples on the Potterfield. If it is possible and with your permission once the situation is stable I should like to do so.”,
She said in her usual quiet tone as she lifted her ears and focused them on the XO. After all it was never a good idea to offend a senior officer.

Cadet. Catt Bennet. Sciences.

Cadet Osten stepped up onto the transporter pad and unslung his phaser rifle from his back to hold it across his body. He took a spot in the back alongside Cadet Richards, inspecting the medical officer as he did. Wiles gave a joking, good-humored grin. “And what happens if the medic gets woozy? Looks like he might be a bit new to all this too.” He looked straight ahead with a well-intentioned smirk, ready for transport.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Richards raised an eyebrow at the Security Cadet and smirked slightly himself. “If the Medical Cadet gets woozy, I doubt that will be the least of our troubles,” he said just quietly enough for the other Cadets to hear. “I’ve already taken my hypo to prevent that, the only thing that could make me woozy now is re-materializing half inside a bulkhead or into vacuum.” Then he tapped his tricorder and spoke louder, as if he had said nothing in the first place. “Ready to go Sir.”

NE Richards

Nijix prevented an amused chuckle from escaping her lips. At least the crew had good humor before the rescue mission, but it would be missed in the following hours. Rescue missions sometimes went sour really fast and the effects could linger for days. She just hoped this mission would leave a more positive memory on her record rather than a haunting one.

“Perk of having a few lifetimes under my belt, I have medical knowledge and training included,” Nijix pointed out and added.

“I once knew a Captian who got woozy so it’s nothing to hid or be ashamed of. It happens to more people than you think.”
