Captain Rhodes pushed aside his empty coffee cup to make room for the PaDD he had just finished flicking through. His desk was covered in a number of other electronic devices as well as a few more random items, but he looked most disappointedly at the empty coffee cup.

Standing, he took the mug and moved to the replicator and in seconds, he had another steaming coffee with which he took a moment to stand by his viewport, sip the hot liquid and look out at the stars beyond. Then he sighed, and tapped his comm badge.

=/\= Cadet Beñnet, this is Captain Rhodes. Please come and see me in my Ready Room. =/\=

With that, looked back out the window and waited for the Cadet to arrive.

OOC: Small Edit, I mixed up the DH’s and was going to call the CNS instead, but I know James is due to take an LOA. James feel free to join in if you pop on.

It is of course the way of things that your always in the fresher when you get a com message and Catt had always had more than her fair share of such occurances. So it was her room mate who informed her the Captain wanted her in his ready room after pulling out of the sonic shower and pulling the earplugs out of Catt’s ears.
Catt paniced, managed to dress groom in under a minute which likely set records for such activity by any Caitan. She took another minute to verify nothing was out of place, and collected 3 padds. One was the results of her hydroponics experiment. One was the personal report on her role in the away mission. Catt had not been kind to herself and had laid the blame for the missions failure on herself and her lack of experiance. She had finished it last night but not sent it. Something about the report didn’t feel right to her and she was trying to figure out what. The last padd had a resignation letter in case it was demanded. She had cried over that letter as it meant giving up on everythinug she had done in the last 8 years. She had made up her mind that she really prefered not to give in that letter. But she was going to be prepared. The last thing she did was to take a sample bag with her.
Catt took the fastest route to the Bridge. Setting foot there for only the second time in her life. The Bridge still felt like entering the holy of holys to her. She paused and took in the crew at work and felt a pang of loss. Her world veiw tended towards expecting the worst so she feared this would be her last time she would walk here as a member of Starfleet. She took a deep breath and forced the face she showed the world onto her features so that she looked happy and confident as she made her way to the entry to the ready room. Only her tail tip refused to go along with the charade. Another deep breath and she rang the door chime and awaited her fate.

At the sound of the chime, Felix took another drink from his coffee and paused as he felt the liquid warm him, he didn’t turn immediately.

“Enter,” he said, allowing the door to slide open to admit the chime ringer. He turned then, just his head to look at the Cadet. “Good morning Cadet Bennet. Please, come in. Come here a moment and take a look at this.” He motioned outside the window, and waited.

Catt stepped in and looked around, she had of course never been in the ready room before so was curious. S3he flicked an ear and headed over to the window. To look out at the stars she was unsure if she could spot the Potterfield from this angle but even if it was there it would be hard to see with the naked eye with it’s power and lights dead.
She dug into the bag she had brought and offered the Captain a bag that sort of smelled like coffee the way the room did. “Um. Sir I just wanted you to have this. I learned you love coffee so I set aside some room to grow some for your personal use. It still needs to be roasted though. I don’t know how to cook plant matter so didn’t want to risk ruining them.”, and she nerviously figited looking between the Captain and the window she had been instructed to look out of.

Felix took the bag and seemed to weigh it in his hand a moment, then placed it on the small table beside them next to the window. “Thank you Cadet, that was thoughtful.” He turned and looked out the window, outside no ships were visible, just the stars of the small slice of galaxy they could see.

“Take a look out there and tell me what you see, then tell me what those are.” He indicated the PaDD’s the Caitian had brought with her. “I didn’t think I asked for any reports Cadet.”

Catt flattened her ears a moment bit her bottom lip and looked out the window at the stars. “I see hope. I always looked to the stars and saw hope. Everything came apart. Only under the stars was it almost safe to move, to forage. “, and she crossed her arms hugging the padds to herself. “The padds are what I do. Before I do anything I prepare.
Be ready for the worst so when the worst happen’s your not surprised. ” and uncrossing her arms she sorted through the padds holding one up. “The final report on the hydroponics experiment. We made some progress but it wa2s still disapointing. But as a side effect the ship has a few tons of fresh food to boost morale. Sir”, she took up the second padd. “This is my self assessment of my performance on the away mission. I do not rate my performance highly. I was going to rewrite it as on rereading it I am perhaps a bit harsh on myself. I think sir I might ser standards of performance that could be unrealistic. I started formal schooling later than most so had to push to catch up.”,
The last padd she looked zt and sighed. “This sir…”, and she sighed heavily, “Is in case you agreed with my self assessment.”, and she unfurled her ears and tried to stood her full height, “I am prepared to safeguard the ship it’s crew and Starfleet as a whole from harm should you deem me to be as inept as I assessed myself to be, by resigning sir.”,
She tried hard to remain unemotional but could not stop tears from welling up. Nor would her tail behave.

Felix raised an eyebrow as he looked at the Caitian a moment, then looked out the window and pursed his lips as if in thought. It lasted a moment, before he looked back to her and turned around now bodily.

“That is a resignation letter? Let me see that.” He held out his hand and waited to receive it.

Catt bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, as she dropped her gaze to the floor and offered the Captain the padd. “Sir.” Was all she said. Once The Captain took the padd she caught her tail in her hands and tried to hold it still.

The chime at the door signaled another attendee to the meeting.

As the door slid open, the unassuming personage that was the ship’s Counselor walked in. “Captain. Cadet.” he said with a nod to each in turn. “I apologize for being late, Sir. Session ran longer than expected.”
