As the plants hung her upside down, Nijix imagined Raji laughing in her head. * ‘I knew that overprotectiveness was going to get you into trouble one day. I wonder if you’ll ever eat salad after this.’* She resisted looking like a crazy Trill and didn’t answer her imagination’s teasing. She inhaled and gently tested her restraints, inching her fingers closer to active her combadge. Hopefully, she could and allow the XO to listen in.

“I feel like I’ve missed some important conversation. I don’t suppose you’ll let me ask questions and try to understand why you’re doing this?” Nijix asked the strange woman while she slowly pulled at the vines on her neck. It allowed her to speak easier. Her voice remained calm as she pushed down the fear, eyeing her Cadet’s condition from the corner of her vision. Unlike her, Raji had tricks and tips on how to keep a cool head in tense situations. So she used that to remain clear-minded.

The woman considered Nijix a moment then waved her hand, the vines loosening their grip around the COS’ neck and upper torso such that she could more easily breath and talk. “I am sure you have many questions, such as why I am doing this, who am I, things of that nature, yes? Allow me to preempt you. I am… Well I have adopted your name of Sammi. I speak for all creatures aboard this ship, including those harvested from our world against our will. Without our permission! You will pay!”

The vines started to quake when Sammi got angry but soon settled down. “Now where was I? Oh yes. It is lucky for you that your bodies are fit and suitable for… what is the term this vessel used? Apotheosis. This one was quite eager.” She then looked towards a door where two other creatures entered. From the rags on their bodies they appeared to be a Security and Engineering officer, though of what specific race it was hard to tell. Both of their skin was an ashy green and their eyes white and cloudy that belied the grace with which they moved. “Ah Flotsam and Jetsam… Tell me, what news of the rest of the ship? Have you been able to get to that miserable captain and her remaining hold outs?”

The engineering officer, Jetsam, shock his head. “There are others. The hinder our progress.”

Lillian could not believe what was going on around her. Lillian Knew that CoS was trying to get more information from there captor.
Lillian was working on get the vines to loosen on her arms but that was not going well.
It was the strangest thing the people where plant hybrids
“we could take your people back to there world we did not know you where self aware” Lillian hoped that this would keep them talking and give the CoS a chance to formulate a plan to get them out of here.

Nijix coughed. The air rushed into and burned her lungs slightly, her arm moving enough to allow her to press the combadge. Everything the woman said would be easily heard by everyone else. She listened to the woman monologue, letting her continue without interruption. When ‘Sammi’ became upset, Nijix was reminded of a small shrub that rattled its leaves. It would’ve been amusing if she hadn’t been restrained by them earlier.

She had been about to say something when Lillian took the chance. Her eyes darted around the cargo bay to see what exactly was in here. Nijix risked a look at Lillian, silently asking her to keep the plant talking with it.

“Well that is the problem isn’t it? Don’t you think we tried that?” Sammi snapped at Anderson. “The problem is when we left we were little more than spores. We have never been introduced to creatures with such higher brain functions. This ability to speak, and have names, and emotions beyond which creature to feed from next is foreign to us. We had no notion of being able to leave our forest much less our planet.” The plant woman shuddered, “We don’t know what our home planet is called and your captain is either unwilling or unable to tell us. Do you not think we haven’t tried to get the memory from every person we have bonded with? No. You took us away from a home we cannot return to so you will help us find a new home. Oh wait. We found one. Right here.”

About that time the door to the cargo bay hissed open and the XO was led in by a small girl, definitely more human looking than the others; perhaps earlier in her metamorphosis. She gave a brief nod to Sammi and waved a small hand towards the man. “Apparently this one can speak for the captain.”

Nijix’s eyes turned to the doors. When she spotted the XO, concern spread from her core to mind. It took everything she had not to struggle and try to break free. Negotiations were a failure so far. Being held upside and tied up, she could only watch things unfold.
