A few hours ahead of schedule the helmsman sounds the chime to the bridge officer. “Sir we are here. Reducing to impulse speed.”

The challenger moves along side the nebula. It is big and bulbous shaped with purples and greens intermingling with blues and yellows to form something of radiant beauty, but also something the color of a bruise.

Early scan show it is filled with the normal gases and stuff that make up a nebula, however sensors are having issue piercing into the center of the nebula, only getting in a few hundred kilometers or so before nothing. (Think ocean. You can see down crystal clear a few feet but then after that you can’t see anything.”

GM Wombat

OOC: I would love it if a Cadet were to respond to this :)

-Ray

OOC: Bump for an interested Cadet....

GM Wombat

OOC: Let’s keep this from completely dying… Any interested Cadet want to report out the sensor information???
IC:
“Thank you helmsman,” NE Con said. “Slow us to 1/2 impulse and start scanning the nebula. And would someone please alert the Captain and Commander that we are here?”

NE Con

I walk up to the bridge hopeing no hates me as open the door. “Hello.”

OOC: Thanks for posting! Couple of notes:
1 - Make sure to put a space between the last line of your post and the next, otherwise it doesn’t pick up that it is a new post.
2 - As a heads up, we post in the third person, like writing a book.
3 - Don’t forget to sign off! We like to know who is posting. :-)

IC:
“Cadet,” NE Con said spinning around in the center seat.

“Help out science on seeing what can be found out about the nebula.”

NE Con

OOC: Someone alert the CO :)

What Do You need help on? Is the ship need scaning?
Cadet, Griffth

As Casen walked on the bridge get heard that they had arrived. “We’re here. Finally.” He then hit his comms and said,

=^=Lieutenant Casen to Captain Weir. We’ve reached the nebula.=^=

Lieutenant (j.g.) Casen CoS

“Ah Lieutenant,” NE Con said standing up, “thank you. Would you like the conn?”

NE Con

“Ok. So someone tell me if this nebula is on any Star Fleet records, and if it isn’t why? If a star had just exploded, someone would know. Earth, Vulcan, even the Klingons would know. Griffth I need you to use the scans to see what the composition of the nebula is even if we need to get closer.”

=^= Lieutenant Casen to Lieutenant Almikaz. I know you are busy but we need you or a cadet to study the scans.=^=

Lieutenant (j.g.) Casen CoS

Surra who was in the lab heard the transmission from the CoS. =/\=Lieutenant, I am on my way. What scans are you referring to? =/\=

Through searching of the records will show that this is a regular old nebula that has been around for a generation of cadets. Rarely is it ventured into, however, as the density of the partials would make it akin to running through a forest, at night, without a flashlight. It would be a perfect place for say… a Romulan vessel defecting to the Federation to hide out while figuring out the next plan of attack.

GM Wombat

“What do we have so far?” Weir asked as he stepped onto the Bridge. The Captain stared at the nebula from the viewscreen as he made his way over to the command hub and sat down.

Surra made it to the bridge the same time as the captain and she stood beside him.

“Science, lets prep a probe to send in.” Samuel ordered. “I don’t like surprises too much, especially with our precious cargo on board the ship.” He said, referring to the secret container that was currently being examined.

Weir (CO)

The CSO nodded and proceeded to follow the captain’s orders as she took her seat at a station to prepare the probe. She typed in the estimated trajectory and set it up so the data transmitted from the probe interfaced with the data from the scans that were being ran on the nebula. “Okay Captain, we are ready to launch the probe.”

Lieut. Almikaz - CSO

Griffth Begins Scaning The Nebula compostion.

Griffth , Cadet

“It’s in our records but for some reason it seems no one was interested in finding out what’s inside it. Captain, I don’t like this at all. It seems strange.” He said as he walked over to Weir.

Lieutenant (j.g.) Casen CoS

The scans that Griffth executes shows exactly what is in the historical record: Super dense nebula comprised of the standard gasses and particles. If on the main screen it is a beautiful sight to behold, on par with the Pillars of Creation from the Eagle Nebula. Swirls of gold, purple, and green shift in the vast darkness of space reflecting the sunlight from nearby stars.

GM Wombat

Max walked onto the bridge holding a steaming cup of coffee. He took a deep breath, breathing in the hot smell.

After a second he looked over at the Captain. “We are a bit early aren’t we Captain?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“We’ve made a little pit stop..” Sam replied, pointing to the viewscreen. “I was hoping this could give us some time to look a little deeper into the Fleet Captain’s past, to at least guess what’s inside the precious cargo.” He said. The Captain looked over at Science to check on the progress with the probe.

Weir (CO)

With the probe, presumably, launched more data comes back in, but not a whole bunch and soon it too disappears from the scope, lost in the inky mire of the nebula.

GM Wombat.

“Ummmm....Captain…We lost the probe! It just dropped off.” Said Surra as she faced him. “The good news is we got some data, but not much. I will compare what we did manage to get against the scans Griffth is collecting and see what we have.”

Lieut. Almikaz - CSO

“Probes don’t just disappear Lieutenant. Does the data that you got give any clues on what happened to the probe”

Max had a bad feeling about that. Probes really don’t just disappear, but there were definitely things out there that could make a probe look like it had disappeared.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Surra didn’t particularly like the XO, however she tried to be respectful as she could. “If it did, Commander, I would have disclosed it.” Then she turned back to her station. “Anyway…I am looking into it. Griffth, send me what you have from the scans.”

Lieut. Almikaz - CSO

Max raised an eyebrow. Perhaps the Lieutenant was still harboring some resentment from their earlier discussion.

Sinclair was hanging back and observing the crew and making notes on the newer Cadets when the probe ‘disappeared’. He walked over to Harkness and said quietly “Sir, a place like that would make for a grand hiding place for a ship. Especially this close to the border. Just a thought.” and he resumed his observations of the bridge crew.

Sinclair, CNS

“I agree Commander,” Max said quietly as well.

The lowly science station operator, NE William Okam, finished some scans and calculations. He handed his results off to the Griffth and Almikaz before returning to his duties.

The PaDD read as one would expect a dump of scientific information to include, gas make up, particle density, some other information from scans. It appears the signal strength decreased as probe went deeper, not too unusual. If NE Okam’s calculations were correct, the probe should resurface in about six hours, a little further away.

GM Wombat

Weir looked over the data as it was handed to him. “A nebula is a weird beast.” The Captain said with a shrug.

He couldn’t sense anything from within the Nebula, and the science readouts did make sense. The CO handed the data over to his First Officer to look over as well.

“Think we should carry the Challenger into it, or head back to our original course?” Sam asked, trying to get a second opinion.

Weir (CO)

“I’ve got a bad feeling about this Captain,” Max said looking over the data. “In theory the Ship should be able to handle it, at least according to these scans. But we don’t know what is deeper in the nebula. I guess it depends on how much we want to see if this nebula is the key to finding out what is in our cargo bay or not.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Sam paused for a moment. His XO was right, they could easily take the ship into the nebula. The Captain was a bit curious to why many ships actually steered clear from entering it in the first place, especially if it could make for some great science discoveries.

“Well right now we have two options.” Sam stated, “We can go through the Nebula and hopefully find an answer to our secret cargo, or we can go straight to our destination and see who ends up taking it.”

Weir (CO)
