“I understand,” said Tandra, though she shifted slightly uncomfortably at the mention of losing patients. She knew naivety was one of her downfalls, and she tended to think too well of everything. And that was why she made an effort to keep the bad stuff in mind, too, because she didn’t want to get blindsided when something bad did happen. “Do you have any tips? On how to cope, that is. I mean, I’m sure I’ll be okay, but a little preemptive advice never hurt anyone, right?” And again, finally, she responded to Tija’s final statement. “I understand. I’ll be here if I ever do need anything.” She hoped she wouldn’t - not that she didn’t like Tija, or didn’t think she would be helpful, but she didn’t want to seem like the type of Cadet to need something all the time. She’d rather prepare now, and handle it on her own later.

Aizala leaned slightly forward, her left elbow resting on her desk and her left index finger lightly touching her mouth. She was silent for a couple of moments, think about how to best answer that question. After all, she was aware that she wasn’t the best example of how to deal with traumatic experiences in a healthy way. But she knew what was generally considered to be helpful. Eventually she said, “Talking with somebody you trust helps a lot of people. As does finding an outlet for your emotions. For some it’s creative work, others practice martial arts or some other sport. At the end of the day it comes down to the question of what works best for you. And I’m afraid that nobody will be able to answer that question for you.” With a half smile she added, “I know that isn’t very helpful. But maybe that is something to talk about with the counsellor when you see him for your psychological evaluation.”

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

She nodded. “Like I said, I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks for answering!” She paused for just a moment, thinking. Even that little bit of information was helpful to Tandra. Last time something bad had happened, in her home life, she hadn’t handled it particularly… well. She did not want a repeat if anything was to happen here.

“Is there anything else we should talk about, or should I move on to my other two evals?” She asked, looking to Tija. She had… her psych eval and her medical check-in left, if she was right. Then she could start her duties. Once again, she found herself rather excited, even for the mundane, boring stuff she’d probably hate doing in about a week from now.

“From my end, I don’t have anymore questions for the time being. So unless you have something you would like to ask or talk about, we should head over to sickbay and I’ll take care of your medical evaluation,” Aizala nodded. While she felt like this conversation had went pretty well, part of her was also glad that it was over. Not because she didn’t like talking to the cadets, but simply because she always struggled in social situation.

OOC: As the thread is getting longer again, why don’t you give snipping it a try? :)

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

OOC: Like that, I hope?

IC:
“Alright, sounds good to me! Seems convenient, to be able to just do both at once.” Tandra commented as she stood and stretched her legs. It felt as though she had been sitting for hours. She would be glad when all her evals and check-ins were done, then at least she could relax into ship life. Now she felt like she was at least always a bit tense and tightened up.

OOC: Yes! Well done! :) Also as you can see, I slightly adjusted the topic to reflect the change of location.

IC:
“Good,” replied Aizala with a nod, as she rose to her feet as well and walked around her desk towards the door.

With the main sickbay being right next door, it didn’t take them long to get there. Once inside the CMO gestured towards the nearest biobed and said, “Please have a seat.” She then took a medical tricorder, slipping it into the holder at her hip, and a PaDD and followed the cadet.

Opening Tandra’s medical file, she asked, “Is there anything I should know that isn’t in your medical file? Any recent changes to your sleeping or eating pattern? Headaches or something like that? And have you traveled outside of Federation space in the past 6 months?”

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

OOC: Alright! And ah, yes, okay.

IC:
Tandra followed Tija out, and then quickly obeyed, sitting on the biobed. “No, I don’t think so. Never had anything major. Broke my arm as a kid, but I think that’s in there.” She replied. “No, the only place I’ve been outside Earth is the Academy and this ship. And no, nothing like that, either.” She said, after a quick moment’s thought.

With a few quick touches Tija added that information to Mika’s medical file and then put the PaDD aside. “Good,” she said as she took the tricorder in her right hand and removed the small wand. She moved the little device slowly and methodically down the cadet’s body, starting at her head all the way down to her feet. All the while she kept her eyes locked on the tricorder screen to make sure she didn’t miss anything.

The tricorder’s results all came back normal. It seemed Tandra was in tip top shape. Tandra, meanwhile, glanced around the med bay, realizing this was where she’d be working, and probably spending a large majority of time. To her, no room on the ship could be cooler. Except maybe the bridge. Maybe.

Once she was done scanning the Cadet, Aizala looked back up again; right into Tandra’s eyes. “All looks fine. You’re in perfect health, Cadet Mika. So from my end you’re cleared for duty,” she said with a smile and stepped slightly to the side, so that Tandra could easily get of the biobed.

“For now, you’ll be on the early shift with Cadet Gartenberg and myself,” Aizala added and reached for another PaDD on a nearby tray. After a few taps, she handed it over to Tandra. “You’ll find your duty shifts on here and also the expectations I mentioned in our earlier conversation. I know those first few days can be rather overwhelming with all the input and new information.”

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

Tandra nodded, standing up. “Great!” She took the PaDD, glancing at it briefly before turning her attention back to Aizala. “Got it, and thanks,” She said. “It is quite a lot, but it’s all so exciting to me.” Cleared for duty. Finally. Tandra, of course couldn’t wait, and her excitement was palpable. “Another Cadet, huh? Can’t wait to meet them!” She figured she’d like working under Aizala, she seemed nice. Though, Tandra got the feeling she could be plenty strict if she needed to be.
