The field dropped and Tija was able to put the simulator on the CMO’s forehead with no major issues. Her forehead was cool to the touch but clammy like a fever had broken when her temperature was dropped.

Once she had withdrawn her arm again, Tija ordered quickly, =/\= Computer, close forcefield again. =/\= She then turned around to look at Gartenberg, Mika and Garth. “Cadet, we are going to try and disrupt the parasites seemingly fragile neural network with the neural stimulator. Lieutenant Garth will administer the shocks according to the calculations of Cadet Tanner. Cadet Mika, I want you to assist him and to keep an eye on Cadet Osten as well. In the meantime, I want you, Cadet Gartenberg, to assist me. Keep an eye on Lieutenant Torrirs’ biosigns while I monitor the parasite. I want both of you to keep us informed of any changes,” she said curtly. Turning her head to the left, she added, “And Priel, I want you to stand by with hyposprays and all in case something goes wrong.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the medical technician replied and pushed a tray with a variety of equipment closer to the biobed, yet sill far enough away so that she wouldn’t be in the way.

This was exactly the type of situation that Mika had always idealized in her head. Now, that she was in it, with all this happening around her and people she knew, she took it all back. Regular ship life over this any day. Still, she knew how to keep her head on straight. “Understood, ma’am,” she replied after she’d heard her orders, and she rushed off to get started.

Mika awaited Lieutenant Garth’s instruction for what she labelled ‘Task 1’, which was assisting the Lieutenant. In the meantime, she attended to ‘Task 2’, keeping an eye on Osten.

“Yes Ma’am,” Adinah forced herself not to choke on the words, only finding the ability to move after Cadet Mika had acted. Adinah felt like her heart was in her throat but she forced herself to breath through it and move herself closer to the CMO and the patient to better note his vital signs.

On one hand this was all absolutely brilliant, and on the other Adinah kind of really did not want any of it to be happening. “Everything stable for now, Ma’am,” and on the final hand she really wanted to be able to shut up because of course Lt. Tija knew that Lt. Torrirs was currently fine. That was absolutely obvious and what was even more obvious was that Adinah was an idiot. All of which was absolutely unhelpful in this situation, so Adinah turned back to her assigned task and waited for the next step of this process. Next time, which there hopefully wouldn’t be too soon, Adinah vowed to pay more attention to what procedures exactly were going on.

Cadet Gartenberg (Medical)

Garth’s wrinkled head swiveled on his stout neck to size Cadet Mika up for one long second as she moved to stand next to him at the sickbay’s main console. Then he snapped his attention back to the neural scans in front of him.

Without introduction, Garth jutted his chin out toward the scans as a way of motioning to them. “Lieutenant Tija may be overestimating my familiarity with physiology. Lieutenant Torrirs is an unjoined trill and Cadet Osten is human. What limited medical knowledge I have is specific to tellarites like myself.” He glanced again at Mika. “I need you to inspect these neural scans and make sure that their nervous systems are still stable enough to withstand the neural shocks that we will be using to disrupt the parasites. If you deem them to be durable enough to proceed, we will begin the shocks at Lieutenant Tija’s signal.”

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

Mika gave a curt nod, paying close attention to the scans. “They look stable for now. I think we’ll be okay to go ahead at her signal,” She said to Lieutenant Garth. She was fully focused on the task at hand, and the expression she wore was a serious one. She hardly noticed that Garth jumped straight into the orders. And if she had, she’d probably have figured that he was focused on the task at hand like she was. She had confidence in his medical knowledge, she figured tellarite or not, he probably knew more than she did, purely based on her inexperience.

Garth blinked once, slowly. “I am capable of understanding the scans as they are currently, Cadet Mika,” he clarified with a hint of restrained impatience, “I am asking you to use your medical expertise to predict their status once the procedure is initiated. They look stable now, yes. Do you think they will look stable after we expose their central nervous systems to electrical shock?”

OOC: Hey there! In this case, Garth is asking for information that Mika doesn’t actually have. This might be a good opportunity for you to ask the GM a question by having your character attempt to gather information in order to make an informed judgement. If your character tries to determine the safety of the procedure by inspecting the scans and comparing them with the level of electrical shock that has been proposed, the GM will likely respond to give you some idea how that might turn out, taking into consideration your character’s training. If I were to ask the GM that question from Garth’s perspective, I might get a very different answer than you would from the viewpoint of your medical character!

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

OOC: So basically, just leave it open ended so the GM can fill in the information. Right?

IC:
Mika mentally facepalmed, visibly cringing at her own mistake. “Right, of course.” That was one that would stick with her for a while. She turned her focus back to what she was doing, checking the readings, and comparing to the electric shock they planned to give. “Well…”
- Tandra Mika, Cadet

OOC: Exactly! Every time you aren’t sure what your character might see/hear/… or if you don’t know if something worked or if your character is able to do it, you’d leave it open for the GM to tell you.

IC:
With her medical tricorder in hand, her gaze fixed on the small display, Tija nodded and said, “Start the procedure on my mark.” She took a deep breath and silently sent another prayer to the prophets, before continuing, “Three - Two - One - Mark.” Hopefully this would work and they would see only effects in the parasite and not Torrirs.

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

OOC: If you are every unsure, err on the side of “Ask The GM”. If I don’t know an answer I will make one up.

IC: The procedure worked, marginally. At least Torrirs would live, if some nerve damage or scaring would occur.

Garth glanced at Mika as his hand hovered over the computer’s controls, waiting for her to confirm that the infected doctor would be alright if they went through with it. “What’ll it be Ensign?”

While scanning, the area in Torrirs’ neck, where they had been bitten to see if there were any changes to the parasite, she commanded, “Cadet Gartenberg, report.”

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

“I think it’ll be okay, Lieutenant.” Mika said, then realized her answer didn’t sound too confident. “I’m sure of it,” she amended, “He can take it.”
