Emily stride down the corridors, nervous yet confident, anxious yet keen. She brought herself to violate her British nature and greet the other Cadets along her way to the Counsellor’s office. She had been nervous enough without the concept of someone else looking for reasons she was not Starfleet material. As Emily came to the door her inner monologue needed to narrate the action of pressing the door chime four times before she actually did it.

OOC (Out of Character): Welcome aboard! What a great first post!

Sarah, CO

OOC: Welcome aboard! So happy to have you with us! And I agree with Sarah… well done on your post! Don’t forget, you can write up a brief (or long, entirely up to you) biography for your character. Click on ‘Profile’ at the top of the page and then click on your character’s name. Then click ‘Edit This Character’ and there you have it. Biographies help with your charter development, but also help the other players react and work with you as well. Feel free to click on character names on the ship’s roster and you can see how others have done theirs.

IC: An oddly accented voice sounded out from inside and “Please come in.” and the door slid open to reveal a space unlike any other on the ship.

The office was lit in a more subdued manner than the rest of the ship; with the light coming from wall lamps rather than the typical overhead lighting and giving a less harsh and much warmer glow. Multiple bookcases with glass enclosed shelves lined one wall, filled with copies and originals of many texts on many different subjects, and a quick glance would show multiple languages as well. The desk was set at an angle against the opposite wall to the door in the corner, allowing for a large open space in the middle. Here there was a couch and a few chairs, one of which sat in front of and facing away from the desk. Pictures hung on the walls, some were even old photographs. Each depicted either places, individuals, or groups of people, and many were in black and white.

Seated at the desk was a plain looking human male with brown hair and brown eyes. He average looking; the kind of person that would be lost in a crowd of more than four or five people. He wore the blue uniform of the Science and Medical Sections, and Lieutenant Commander pips showed on his collar. There was one distinguishing feature about the man, however. Actual glasses were perched on his nose. He looked up, and a very odd accent issued forth, as if multiple accents were vying for control. “Hello, Cadet. I am Lieutenant Commander Korczak. How can I be of assistance?”

Lt. Cmdr. Korczac, CNS

When she saw Lieutenant Commander pips and heard the rank spoken, Emily froze. All she could say was “Cadet Emily James, M.D. I’m… a new ship’s physician.” She had never been anywhere with an officer higher than Lieutenant outside a classroom.

Korczak paused for a moment. “I see. And what brings you to my office today, Cadet? Social call, perhaps?” he asked, hoping some joviality might allow her to compose herself a bit before they continued.

Korczak, CNS

“Not today sir. A boarding psychological evaluation, if you have the time.” Emily was less nervous, but still very aware of stakes that may or may not be present.

Cadet Emily James

“Indeed. Well, I suppose that is why I am here. Please, have a seat.” he said, and indicated the seating area in front of the desk. Standing up, he moved around the desk and took a seat in the lone chair facing the seating area. Unlike any other Counselor, he had no PaDD or note taking material of any kind. He simply sat and waited for the Cadet to do the same.

Korczak, CNS

Emily sat down, noting the Counsellor’s lack of notes or recorded dictations. He either had a strong memory or made his evaluations rather immediately. Both options had their discomforts.

Cadet Emily James

“How was your trip to the Challenger, Cadet? Uneventful, I hope?” he asked as she settled in. “Any difficulties coming aboard?”

Korczak, CNS

“The shuttle flight was almost without even turbulence. Coming aboard has been less difficult than I expected. I expected more… academic challenge immediately. I’m sure it is due.”
