“I think it’ll be okay, Lieutenant.” Mika said, then realized her answer didn’t sound too confident. “I’m sure of it,” she amended, “He can take it.”
- Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

Garth gave a curt nod. He activated the procedure using the sickbay terminal, perhaps a second or two late from Tija’s count, but immediately after Mika’s assessment. He leaned forward subconsciously to narrow his eyes at the read outs, watching the results of their efforts with anticipation. Cadet Mika’s confidence in the procedure made Garth even more certain that his idea would work, but he was determined to stay vigilant incase unforeseen complication arose.

“Start review of Cadet Osten’s status, Doctor Mika,” he said quickly, “I imagine that Lieutenant Tija will instruct us to start the procedure for him immediately if this proves effective for the chief medical officer.”

OOC: Well done incorporating the feedback you got from the GM! You’re a natural! If you wanted to snip the thread in your next reply, this would be a good opportunity to practice. - Ben

(Lt. J.g Garth, CSO)

“Yes, sir” said Mika, and she quickly headed over to Osten to check on his scans. She took a minute looking everything over, before making a decision, wanting to be ready if need be.

OOC: :) Attempted snipping, hopefully didn’t snip too much out!

OOC: Usually you’d make sure that the last post of every person is left so that they have a reference point. In this case, though, I think it is okay, as my character asked Dane’s character a question and thus she knows what to reply to :)
And as we managed to create a bit of a time incoherence, I’ll move the GM’s post and my last post to the end of this thread as they talk about the moment right after the procedure. It’s something that can happen easily for a variety of reasons and no big deal. Another option would also be to continue as if it hadn’t happened, but right now my brain doesn’t wan to do that. So I asked for permission to move the posts.

IC:
The procedure worked, marginally. At least Torrirs would live, if some nerve damage or scaring would occur.

GM Wombat

While scanning, the area in Torrirs’ neck, where they had been bitten to see if there were any changes to the parasite, she commanded, “Cadet Gartenberg, report.” And without moving her eyes of her tricorder, she added, “If this procedure worked, we’ll repeat it on Cadet Osten.”

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

Adinah almost jerked to attention, so tense she’d almost missed that she was supposed to do something. “There appears to be some possible nerve damage,” Adinah mused, checking out the reading in front of her carefully. The least she could do was respond properly and with all the information. She just needed to breath, stay calm, and do the job she’d been working on for ages.

“Possible scarring too,” Adinah answered, eyes flickering over to the ill officer as she spoke. “But over all it seems to have been a success Lieutenant.” Adinah’s eyes ran back over all the information before her to double check herself, but that’s what she could tell for now.

Cadet Gartenberg (Medical)

Tija didn’t show much of an outward reaction towards Gartenberg’s report other than that her frown deepened some and that her lips became an even thinner line. Brain damage and scaring was never a good message and on top of that the gain seemed to be minimal. Yet what else was there to do? Looking at the patients in front of her, she went once more in her mind through everything they had found so far and tried to think of other options

Garth checked the scans from the main terminal to verify Cadet Gartenberg’s readings, then nodded at Cadet Mika to confirm that the next round of treatment would likely be for Osten. He tapped his comm badge.

=^= Garth to Captain Davis. We have stabilized Lieutenant Torrirs, and will replicate the procedure on Cadet Osten in a moment. Have any other crew members become infected? =^=

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

=/\= No. =/\= came the short reply and then a pause before Emmy began to speak again.

=/\= Commander Harkness just returned to the ship with much of the away team. We received no alert that their suits were breached. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

That’s at least something, the Doctor thought as she turned around to look at everybody else in the room. “I’m a bit hesitant to try this procedure again, to be honest as it seems to have very little effect and instead causes some brain damage and scaring, which I’m not sure will be reversible. Yet I’m running out of ideas as everything we’ve tried so far seems to have only a nominal effect or merely keeps the parasite from fully taking over for the time being. What we need is a way to fully separate the parasites from the hosts. Any ideas?” As she asked that question she looked straight at the two cadets. Not to put them on the spotlight though, but in the sincere hope that they might have an idea she and Garth hadn’t thought of yet. For she started to feel like she had basically tunnel vision right now and might miss the obvious.

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

=^= Understood, =^= Garth responded gruffly, =^= I would still recommend quarantining the away team for the moment. Temporal onset of initial symptoms can vary, and since the only warning signs are temperament changes, the infection can be difficult to diagnose at first. Has the source has been eliminated? =^=

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

=/\= Unknown. Commander Harkness has not updated me yet. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

After a moment of contemplation, Emily raised her hand. “Lieutenant? Humans and parasites are inherently biologically different. Their body densities must be different. Perhaps we could locate them, maybe even transport them out.” She waited for Lt Tija’s feedback.

Cadet Emily James

Looking over at James, she gave her a small nod to indicate that she should continue and then listened closely to the cadet’s words. “That is a good idea and definitely worth trying. Thank you, Cadet James. See if you can locate the parasite in Lieutenant Torrirs.” She the turned around and looked at their patients again, biting down on the inside of her lower lip while trying to decide whether or not they should try Lieutenant Garth’s idea on Cadet Osten as well, or not. She didn’t want to cause any brain damage, no matter how minimal, unless she had to. And she jsut wasn’t sure if they were at the “had to” point or not.

~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

One of the surgical nurses was standing by, awaiting the order from Tija as what operation to move forward with.

For James’ efforts, locating the mass on the back of her neck which was the nest of the parasite was easy enough. A quick scan could even find the tendrals moving through the body, wrapping around nerve clusters and down through the spine.

GM Wombat

“Doctor,” Garth said to Lieutenant Tija as it looked like she had paused for a moment, “we should be expecting the away team, although it’s not clear if they’ve brought further samples or other information that might help us.”

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

“Is it possible to verify that using the transport on something so small won’t accidentally take something else with it?” Adinah asked, brows furrowed as she thought about it. “I dont know much about transporters, but that feels like something that should be tried out at least once before actually attempting the procedure. Accidentally taking out part of the spine or brain would do severe damage.”

“Of course,” Adinah added quickly, “I’m no engineer or anything. If that far of a specification can be made then it might be worth a shot.”
