Adinah was rather pleased that her own worries had encouraged her to memorize pretty much the entire layout of the USS Endeavour because otherwise she would have been forced to check that she was actually in front of the right office. Not that the whole name by the door and everything wouldn’t have given it away, but hey better safe than sorry…which probably related to this instance.

Pursing her lips, because seriously of course this was the right place, she was just jump about talking to a lieutenant on a spaceship, Adinah rang the chime to let the counselor, who was hopefully inside, know someone was outside. Having a nice chat with a lieutenant on a starship, and Adinah still wasn’t over the fact that she was on a starship, was bound to be exciting, Adinah just really hoped that it would be alright for her to ask some questions as well.

The doors slid open to allow entry, and the office on the other side of the door was unlike any area in the rest of the ship. It was lit in a more subdued manner than the rest of the ship, with the light coming from wall lamps rather than the typical overhead lighting. Multiple bookcases with glass enclosed shelves lined one wall, filled with copies and originals of many texts on many different subjects, and a quick glance would show multiple languages as well. The desk was set at an angle against the opposite wall to the door in the corner, allowing for a large open space in the middle. Here there was a couch and a few chairs, one of which sat in front of and facing away from the desk. Pictures hung on the walls, some were even old photographs. Each depicted either places, individuals, or groups of people, and many were in black and white.

Adinah took a moment to scan over the pictures on the walls, curious as to if they were important to the counselor or just there for some kind of comfort or conversation starter for whoever entered the room.

Seated behind the desk in the corner was a human male with Lieutenant Commander pips on his collar. The man was wholly plain looking; in fact so nondescript that he almost blended in with the office. His voice, on the other hand, was distinctive. “Please, Cadet. Do come in. I am Lieutenant Commander Korczak, the ship’s Counselor. Please, have a seat.” and he indicated the siting area before the desk. The man had a most unusual accent, as if two wholly unrelated accents were vying for control. Even with that, his speech was clear and articulate; with crisp pronunciation and diction. The only other noticeable fact of the man were the glasses perched on his nose… actual glasses.

Adinah hesitated for a split second, wavering between giving a proper solute and introduction and just sitting. In the end, she did what the counselor said and took a seat. Lips pressed together, more because she didnt want to accidentally blurt something out now that her careful script seem to be thrown out than any kind of negative emotion, Adinah just smiled and nodded at the counselor, quite unsure what to do now.

Korczak stood and pushed said glasses up his nose a bit higher and moved around the desk. “If you would like a drink before we start, you are welcome to the replicator as well.”

“I’m quite alright, thank you,” Adinah replied, clasping her hand together on her lap to keep from fidgeting with the edges of her shirt. Her voice was still in the slightly higher register than normal that meant she was trying to be overly polite or was very nervous, in this case it was rather both. Other than her ridged posture and slight thinned lips, both of which could be easily mistaken as someone who was normally reserved, nothing about her suggested she was nervous.

“I’m Cadet Adinah Gartenberg,” she added almost as an after thought. She winced internally at realising she never had bothered introducing herself. “I’m here for my boarding eval, although I’m guessing that was rather obvious.” Adinah’s lips twitched slightly at the end because she was probably the most stereotypical cadet ever, all nervous about talking to the counselor, but that was fine it was all fine…hopefully.

After Holiday Bump

Nodding without speaking, the Counselor took his seat and set his hands in his lap. Unlike the Counselors at the Academy he had no PaDD, no recording devices… nothing to take notes. He simply looked at the Cadet seated before him and said “Welcome to the Challenger. I trust your trip here was uneventful?”

Korczak, CNS

“Yes, it was very standard as far as I understand it.” Adinah replied easily, head tilting in curiosity at the lack of any kind of note taking device, but far be it from her to question a superior. At least on something so minuscule because surely the counselor knew what he was doing.

Korczak nodded and said “And are you settling in all right? Any issues or discomforts?”

Korczak, CNS

“I havent been around here long Lieutenant,” Adinah admitted easily. “I suppose, however, I’ve settled in well enough. No discomforts as of present.” Adinah shrugged a bit, because really there wasnt anything really anything wrong here. The only issues she tended to have were the…unfortunate incidents she’d had to handle in the past. Emergency medicine had been a mistake.

Cadet Gartenberg (Medical)

“Excellent. I’m glad to hear the transition from Academy classroom to practical application is going smoothly.” and he leaned back a bit in his chair. “So before we begin, is there anything specific you want to discuss? Any questions or concerns you may have?” he asked, his odd accent lending a friendly and conversational tone to his words.

Korczak, CNS

“None,” Adinah replied easily. She had her anxieties and issues regarding her past specialization, but it wasnt necessarily something she thought she needed to talk about. The basics would surely be in her medical file if the counselor really wanted to bring it up, but as far as Adinah was concerned it really all was behind her. She wouldn’t have to do those things again surely, surely.

Korczak nodded once and said “Very well. So tell me, Cadet… what are your overall goals for your time on the Challenger? What do you hope to accomplish?”

Koczak, CNS
