Derrick had always found starships to be some of the ml sot interesting things ever created, so he wasnt exactly in a rush to get to the Security office. After, all security officer should get a good feel of his ship, right? As he arrived at his destination, he paused and took a breath. “Well, here goes nothing” he said before pressing the door chime

Nijix leaned over her desk within her office. Her attention shifted between the data pad information over various subjects. The reports ranged from cargo missing to new officers under her management. She lingered on the list a moment longer than she should’ve until the chime distracted her. Nijix’s hand set the pad aside then spoke.

“Come in.” The joined Trill’s voice was calm as she settled into her seat, her fingers intertwined on her desk top.

As the doors opened he stepped inside, putting aside his desire to look about the room until after formalities had occurred. “Cadet Derrick Knest, reporting for duty,” he said with a salute. “I was advised to come check in with you.” He smiled, eyes briefly scanning over the desk was curiosity.

Nijix raised a single eyebrow, but she didn’t speak. Instead, she pulled up a data pad and flipped through the view screen. Her finger went through numerous files in her mail box. They started with cargo shipments then filtered down to the officer files.

Her office retained a professional atmosphere for the most part. On closer inspection, a few subtle differences stood out mainly on her desk. First was a holographic display. It flashed digital images of past cadets who served underneath Nijix. Each one crafted with attention to detail and obvious passion. Second had been a small bonsai tree on the desk, a recent gift. Each branch held small clusters of amethyst crystals, growing and thriving. On the bottom, green moss interlocked onto river rocks. Finally, was the subtle scent. A warm and earth smell mingled with a soft floral one. Clary sage and frankincense.

“Found it. Yes, I’m sorry. Today has been rather busy and I missed it. Please sit down. Would you like something to drink?” Her hand gestured to the seat in front of her desk.
